Reliable, Slow, Overheats, Cheap Plastic Case

On a sustained drive copy, the average transfer speed is 6 MB / s. This is by far the slowest external hard drive that I own. On a hot summer day, the room temperature is anout 85 F and the drive case is at or above 35 C, its specified maximum. I used ice to cool it, which improved the speed, but not by much. On the good side, the drive has been through multiple full drive backups and works reliably. It is small and lightweight, good for travel. Its price is low, so I it gets lost or stolen, I will not lose much money.

Buy only if you don't care about your files

I bought the 5TB Elements a year and a half ago, and this week it started giving me problems before becoming completely useless after 3 days. At first, some of the files on it weren't able to open, and it said the files were corrupt. So I disconnected, reconnected, and ran a Dskchk, and it seemed to successfully "repair" the corrupt files. After that, I could access some of the files again, but File Explorer took forever just to open folders and list the files, let alone open them. A few files later, and any attempt to access the files would freeze File Explorer. Disconnected, reconnected, and now Windows just asks me to format the drive, so pretty much all my files are lost. I can't recommend anyone to buy this product, unless you like having your files disappear forever.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Too short USB connection cable

USB connection cable is too short (45 cm). Slow transfer rates (approximately 70 mb/s)

Poor or slow performance is usually caused by system configuration issues such as if the host does not have enough Cache or optimized Cache. In some cases, this could be related to running background programs, multiple connections to the pc, or outdated drivers which can impact benchmark results.

Constant Headache and Error Messages

Constant problems. Sometimes wants to work, sometimes doesn't. Kept getting different error messages for tons of different things and spent hours Googling what to do to no avail. Lost all my images and data because of it. I've never had an issue with a portable hard drive before. Will never buy the Elements line again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Worse product- do not buy

After one year yesterday it stopped working, I lost data more than 1TB including my years of collection of pics and important project details. I regret buying this drive. On the other hand, I have Seagate older than this working fine.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
