Seems to work as advertised. Very easy to install and setup. Fast and for the week that it has been in use it has been reliable. I have used Netgear products in the past and have been pleased with the performance. I will buy from this company again! Thank you Netgear!

Great performance

I upgraded from an Apple AirPort Extreme with 2 Airport Expresses as extenders. They were extremely slow in download & upload speeds. Tremendous amount of buffering. The Nighthawk X6S AC3600 was very easy to set up and install. The difference in download speed and video playback was very noticeable. No more buffering, no more timing out. Very pleased with the Nighthawk so far.

connectivity issues

I've done all trouble shooting steps through net gear and Microsoft. Nothing has fixed my router from resetting and dropping all internet thought out my house. When ever I try to connect to a voice party chat, or if i'm in a party chat and someone else joins me it hard resets. Now that I'm trying to join a game the router resets itself.. I've installed brand new cables had my ISP come to my house and check on everything and on their end it's fine.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My own “information super-highway”
on April 17, 2020

It’s not that my previous modem/router combo with range extender was broken. Or maybe it was? I was getting about 35 Mbps of the 50 Mbps I was paying for. And with the extender I was able to get a few bits of that to the bedroom. Yes, I had to switch back and forth between the router and Extender every time I left the bedroom but that’s normal, right?
I guess it had been a while since I’d looked at routers. But when the pandemic-fueled surge in network activity hit my home with two teleworkers and two young adult distance learners, I was pre-authorized to spend what was necessary to keep us all connected to work and school.
The first thing I had to do was get a dedicated cable modem. This promptly opened up the bottle neck that had formed at my previous modem/router combo. Then I looked at Tri-band routers (one 2.4 GHz band for long distance and two 5 GHz bands for fast data over shorter distance). These are the wireless “information super highways” for the variety of devices we’re driving while sheltering in place.
The Nighthawk X6S AC3600 Smart WiFi Router (R7960P) has the glossy black spiked appearance that the females in my home would prefer to cover up with more decorative items on the shelf. It’s not soothing to look at the way the Orbi is. It’s got more of a sci-fi arachnid-inspired look that feels threatening - like it wants to climb down off the book shelf and kill your cat.
The signal from the six antennas penetrates the walls better than the previous router did. Without a mesh extender the 5 GHz bands are still somewhat weaker at the nooks and crannies of our living space. The question becomes, “When I’m in the bedroom should I tell my device to connect to the weaker 5GHz band or the strong 2.4 GHz band?”
And then, when I leave the bedroom, “Oh, I should make sure I’m connected to the faster 5 GHz band now!”
Turning on the Smart Connect feature gives that job over to the scary spider thingy on the shelf. The router seamlessly moves your device to the most efficient band at the moment. Walking back and forth in our living space doesn’t require us to keep tabs on the signal strength and adjust our devices accordingly anymore. This is the biggest advantage the four of us agree on about this router.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I always had spotty WiFi service in the farthest point of my house, once I purchased the Nighthawk X6S AC3600 it was life changing. I don't know why I waited so long to purchase one.
