Love technology and the thermostat monitors and controls temperatures to tents of degree in Celsius units. One difficulty I had was to find how to change default units from Fahrenheit to Celsius. It is good the screen display can be set to a lower levels of brightness but should have a little lower level before it goes completely dark.
The thermostat’s are great! We love the clear format, the ability to get the weather, remote access, and ease of use. The only option I would like to have is an “auto” setting where it would switch between cool and heat as needed. In our area, it can go from the 40s to the 80s in the spring and fall. Otherwise, I have no other issues with these great thermostats.
I never thought I could like a thermostat so much. Here are some of the things I love about this model:1) The temperature and humidity readings are able to be calibrated by the user; 2) The display colors and brightness are customizable; 3) The smartphone app is very simple and intuitive; 4) The thermostat has support for smart things and Alexa.
I have bought 4 of them. The screen is beautiful. A pleasure for the eye. However I have encountered several problems: 1- Firmware does NOT update, contrary to what they say. I have some with firmware of 2020, 2022, 2023 and none of them updates firmware to the latest version. They stay with firmware of original purchase. 2- One of them, I have in Mexico city, Mexico and the weather function is totally inaccurate. I think it is picking up weather info for some other location. 3- From time to time, the screen background turns white. But later it recovers and goes back to normal. 4- Be careful in installation when you are inserting the cables into the slots. It is very finicky and fragile. It is almost impossible to take the cable out of the slot without damaging the slot.
The base model started giving me trouble after 12 yrs. Since it will be replaced, I stepped up to model 9000. Color display, Wi-Fi settings, big deal. My fingers aren't broken. My vision is fine. After installation, I saw where I was wrong. The larger fonts against the colored background make temperature visible across the room. Having the outside temp/humidity displayed is a plus. Then there is Wi-Fi. At bedtime, I do an interior perimeter check, including the thermostat setting. Now, I check/adjust it from cellphone on the nightstand.
Replacing an Emerson that became defective. Thermostat works as designed, but does not have humidistat capability which would be an excellent addition that was part of the Emerson design. When researching a new thermostat the information was a little misleading as it mentioned humidity control that was a useful feature when away from our home in Florida.
