It is very good at what it does. Setting temps, programming, remote controlling, display reading at night (also got rid of 47 year old night light) and I am sure we will discover more pros as we use it. It is not good at what it doesn't do. Indoor temp reading is always at least 3.5 degrees high when in cooling mode. After 2 weeks of struggling with hit and miss settings, we calibrated it with our very accurate Ambient weather stations and a hand held infrared thermometer. Indoor humidity reading is always at least 15 % low when in cooling mode.Three months from now we will be calibrating the temps in heat mode.
Looks good, easy to install and program. Controls both the heater and the air conditioner seamlessly. User friendly menus. Outside temp is based on WIFI weather info., not a local sensor. Now, the annoying part: Constantly displaying "SENSOR FAULT" which after trial and error really means that our humidity is too low to fit into it's software parameters. Google research says it is a glitch that might appear right out of the box, but then it will stabilize. Nope. I have gone into the menu and offset the humidity reading by 6% so far, trying to trick this fault from re-occurring. Bottom line....this thing needs a software update. (I have 2 of these units, both doing the same thing.)
I shopped for Quality, Function and Ease of use when looking for a new thermostat and I am definitely in my senior years. The Honeywell 9000 covered all of my needs plus it is beautiful and was very easy to install. I only had to connect 1 more wire at the thermostat and I was all done except for programming, which the Honeywell 9000 prompts you through. It came set up with a Blue background which we kept but there are plenty of other colors available to set. Great Quality and Easy to Install and Use. We Love it.
I love having the ability to change it 1500 miles away. We were gone for a month and had contractors in and out. They kept propping doors open and then turning the AC down very low because the house would warm up. I told them I would shut it off if they kept leaving the doors propped open. It was 96-98 degrees outside. I set it to 79 and locked it with a pass lock code. It works great!
This is my third of this exact thermostat. My wife found the other two easy to understand and operate, but not so for the old one in our bedroom. That motivated me to install another one in our bedroom even though running a "C" wire is impossible to that location. I installed it using a "C" wire alternative and amazingly, my wife is now able to adjust the thermostat without messing it up (sure hope she doesn't read this).
A word of caution if you are replacing a thermostat in your bedroom. The background is dimmable, but the foreground is not. It's not a problem for me, but it's too bright for my wife.
Don’t buy it. The only reason this hot garbage is in my home is because this is what the builder installed. I had zero choice in what thermostat they used. This is the third one that they have had to come out and replace. The house is less than 6 months old. Do yourself a favor and purchase something that will work. I wish I was able to give this half a star and two thumbs down. Absolutely the worst thing in the house. It will disconnect from the wifi on its own and then it just stops working all together. You’ll come home during the winter to a 50° home and just yesterday on the first hot day of the year we have had the house got up to 88° so I’m sitting here literally sweating at 4am writing this and reading about the future replacement for this garbage. DO NOT BUY.
