The thermostat seem to be fine but the app sucks. I purchased this so I could use my phone to adjust as needed but in the 3 weeks I have had it there have been several times where I couldn't use the app to connect or have had to force stop the app to connect.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

So far so good. Easy to install and has been working great ever since. Love being able to monitor and change the temp from where ever I am. Will likely get one to replace the upstairs thermostat as well.

Attractive Display, Adequate App. Works great. I would rate this a full 5-stars if the app were a little more functional and the display offered more details like the weather forecast (vs. just displaying outside temp and humidity). I like the interface of the Nest better, but our new home did not have the necessary wiring. But, as a replacement, this thermostat and app are adequate.
