I had wanted a Thermostat for years. Was worried about my connections since I'm in a mobile home. Works great! Havnt had any issues. Nice bright screen.
Nice product, I purchased this for my home, I replaced the original thermostat. Very simple to install, I no longer need batteries in the unit. It linked with my wifi easily. Simple controls from my phone I can control from anywhere I am.
It has a good variety of alerts/alarms with the option to customize for your needs. Being able to change screen color is a nice feature. Most importantly is the thermostat is accurate and functions properly. I have had both Ecobee and Nest thermostats and think this one has more flexibility and performs better.
This model was recommended by the HVAC company (Conejo Valley Air) that installed it and it's such an improvement over the old green-screen Honeywell the guy who installed our original air conditioning system 5 years ago left us with, it's hard not to give it 5 stars immediately.
I have just hated that old green-screen unit from day one.
It was hard to see, wouldn't light up on demand when we needed to look at it at night––we would have to turn on lights to see our “backlit” control module––and extremely unintuitive. It was really and truly like technology from that last millennium and probably has DOS running underneath it. For 5 years we fought that thing. We never figured out how to program it or do anything other than turn the unit on or off, heat or cool, and then fight trying to get rid of a “HOLD” that would appear and change our settings seemingly randomly.
Did I mention how much we hated that thing? ;-)
I tried to get Greg, the HVAC guy, to replace it, but he kept saying it was "the best" one. “Dear Greg, It was never ‘the best’ at anything. You need to raise your standards, mate.”
Greg, who did a good job with the initial install, kind of vanished after it was done in 2015 and we’ve been on our own until recently.
Anyway, the Honeywell 9000 unit is bright, in color and turns out needs to be wired to the unit in the attic. It needs to be installed as a fixed unit on the wall by a professional. It's not wireless, the only "thing" the other clunky unit had going for it, but the iPhone app that pairs with it is (obviously) BEYOND WIRELESS. I haven't tried, but suspect you can control your system from anywhere in the world with a signal. I can see this being of use if you leave the house empty with the heat or aircon blasting and realize that when you're grocery shopping and want to turn it down. Otherwise, it's easy to whip out my iPhone at home when I'm in my office and feeling too hot or too cold and adjust things instantly.
So why give it "only" 4 stars?
Well, the touch screen itself is a little funky (plastic-y) like it some of the early touchscreens. You really have to press it firmly to get it to recognize the touch. That's fine, but something future models might improve upon. It could use a few software interface tweaks as well (I'm a retired from high tech) and could move the buttons you need to push a little farther away from the frame so that those with man hands can manually adjust it without touching it's plastic window frame. These are definitely not dealbreakers, but you do hope Honeywell doesn't sit on its laurels and will continue some of the finishing touches on this product. I'm also not sure if it's Apple/Siri home automation savvy, but seem to recall Alexa might respond. Just more tweaks for the future. No need for bells and whistles, just some minor interface improvements would be nice.
The iPhone app is brilliant and really the thing all of us interface with most of the time. I just noticed the weather app that lurks underneath it, which is actually pretty good and helpful to know in terms of our solar production which is powering the air-conditioning 100%.
All in all, this is such an improvement over what we fought with for 5 years that it’s hard to be objective. Definitely a no-brainer if you’ve never had anything of this caliber. The screen is so bright and the temperature in a large font that you can see it easily from 10-20 feet away. It looks good on the wall. Not ugly at all. Makes our living room look a tad more modern.
Do your own homework in terms of whatever smart home systems you’re running, but this unit is well worth your consideration.
It's nice being able to control this thermostat from my laptop or my cell phone. The feature of seeing the outdoor temp anytime is a nice. The only issue I have is I wish it were a little bigger. Other than that it is a great thermostat.
My new Honeywell 9000 thermostat is very easy to read. What is even better is that it is also very easy to use. From 1400 miles away I have the security of knowing that the humidity and temperature at my home are intact. I am contemplating replacing all the thermostats at my business and second home to the 9000. I’m sold!
