My daughter went through a great deal of trouble getting this as a Mother's Day gift for me, and I was super excited to use it. My friend had another brand's airfryer that was smaller. His food came out tasty and crispy. When I used this model, however, it had a weird smell and odor, and the food tasted strange. I went online and did all the suggested things on line to get rid of the taste smell to no avail! I felt horrible that my daughters spent their hard earned money on something I can't even use! :-(

While shopping, I noticed the enthusiastic reviews for this fryer. It’s justified. Totally satisfied customer. I’d like to offer some tips from a beginner viewpoint. * Upon unpacking, completely wash and dry all usual parts. * Reassemble unit and take outside where electricity is available. Run the Max Crisp function for 15 mins. The stench is common to many air fryers. Allow Ninja to cool and air out before washing and drying again. * Consider the accessories I recommend here. A must have is a set of silicone tipped tongs. Plastic and nylon will melt and metal will scratch the basket. * A meat thermometer will assist you in getting consistent results, no raw chicken. * Accessory kits will enable you to try new ideas like baking or making kabobs. Very handy. Seriously, I haven’t found a thing I would change about theMax XL. These exact accessories are highly recommended!

I like another persons review on here used our air fryer one day and then a few days later went to use it and it won’t turn on at all. We tried different outlets as well thinking that was the problem but noted, it still wouldn’t turn on..I am EXTREMELY disappointed!! We own many Ninja appliances but after only having my air fryer for 5 months and only getting to use it less then 10 times, I don’t think I will ever buy another Ninja product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Having an air fryer that does much more than fry is pretty legit in my eye. The manual that comes with the fryer is super helpful but I did find that after pre-heating and following the directions to cook things (different times and temperature for veggies, meat, etc.) was not accurately. After burning one thing, I decided to cook things half the time mentioned in the manual. So far, everything is cooking great! I knocked off one star because cooking times for food in the manual doesn't seem accurate.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got my new ninja air fryer today and boooy was I excited. It's totally decked out with features from baking to dehydration and all in between. Was packaged very nice and tight. And I've already used it and made myself done crispy tots... And they wher done in 5 min. I'll have to get used to the temps and times, but it automatically went to 20min, and after 5 I started smelling them, checked them and they wher already cooked perfectly! I'm so stoked...next will be chicken breast and wings... This will be great come football season... Then on to make jerky and fruits for me and my pups and family. I CAN'T FIND ANY COMPLAINTS LOL I JUST LOVE IT!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ninja Air Fryer Max XL AF161 hands down best thing that ever came into my life. Im on a different path in my life, where I wanna eat more healthy meals, without all the extra oils and things. I was able to cook chicken, fries in this air fryer over the weekend. And oil is optional u don't have to use it unless u want and it only takes a small amount. My chicken came out crispy without all that extra oil the cook time was amazing. Can't wait to try different meals in my air fryer. It didn't take up much space on the counters it felt it in beautiful with my other kitchen appliances. Easy to clean and wipe down.

Mixed feelings...

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so excited to try this air fryer after reading reviews and watching something on tv that featured one, but my feelings are mixed after cooking several things in it. So far, I've made both regular and sweet potato fries, the broccoli recipe that comes in the cookbook and chocolate soufflé. Each time the cooking time has been off and I've had to guess at the adjustment... both times the fries were half over-cooked and half-undercooked, the soufflé was over-cooked and the broccoli was way over-cooked... I'm chalking this up to a learning-curve and will keep trying. I have other Ninja products and LOVE them and the quality of the construction of this fryer is excellent. However, there is an off-gassing smell while the fryer is cooking that I'm hoping diminishes with use, and both my husband and I have noticed on all the foods that there's an "off" taste that can only be described as "chemical" like the coating of the main cooking unit... also hoping this diminishes with use.

Tried using this several times now. Never completely cooks and websites for problem solving have been useless. Keep getting code CLS but can’t find explanation anywhere.
