I bought this product a month or so ago and have been very pleased. The size is the basket is great. It holds a lot of food. I've cooked wingettes, fish, shrimp and fries. The recommended cooks times on the Fryer is amazing. The digital temprature guage and timer is a very nice feature. I definitely recommend this product if you're looking to cook a large or small amount of food. Also, Low noise. Not as loud as the other brand I owned.

I tried sweet potato fries and breaded butterfly shrimp, they turned out good. Ninja advises to shake the basket and they're right. Last weekend I tried the air broil feature on 4 bacon wrapped fillets, well see for yourself after 4-5 minutes per side.

Great machine but unknown smell

Got this for a Christmas gift and have been using since. One of the best things we have in our kitchen but my Wife smells an unusual smell when cooking with it! She is very concerned with safety. Is this normal in the break in period? Everything is very good otherwise just this smell. She thinks it has a plastic/rubber type of smell. As for the cooking I am completely happy with it. Could you please explain!

Don't waste your money!!

I bought one 4 months ago and today all of the sudden the fryer stopped working completely. I tried looking for some recommended troubleshooting but didn't find anything. I seriously think the quality is really bad!!!

My wife bought the AF 161 Max XL for our son for a Christmas present. He absolutely loved it and raved over all the things he cook do with it! Then after 8 months-nothing! Would not light up, turn on, anything! Needless to say he was disappointed as were we. Think twice about purchasing Ninja again.....

Different versions of the AF161

On some sites itvshows a shiny metal plate on the base unit, my first one bought the other day the plate on the base unit was a black metal with a round rough spot towards the back that felt like sandpaper, returned it and picked up another but this one the plate is plastic and part of the whole base unit and not separate. I am wondering how the plastic will hold upmwith the metal basket sliding in and out using it. It seems Ninja did this for cost savings for them as well as eliminating the safety switch for the unit pausing when you slide the basket out to check how contents are cooking Not sure if these new ones are better. Also chatted with customer service who said some are made with the separate attached permanently metal plate and some with the plastic plate which is part of the main unit body. Just a guess but I bet they are using different .manufacturers producing the same model #AF161, what are your thoughts.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great basket size - can fit a large number of vegetables, chicken, and our favorite: french fries! It works much faster than I thought. Fries say they take 20 minutes, but they are usually done in a few minutes. Chicken tenders are also pretty quick cooking! The basket is easy to clean and is coated with a nice non-stick surface. Overall the machine feels very sturdy and well made. My whole family loves it!
