I would have given this new one 5 stars if WD had included the USB plug on the end of the cable like they did in a previous version of My Passport for Mac that I purchased. I have purchased several of these WD "solid state" My Passport for Macs. I find them more reliable (in terms of longevity) than WD's "non-solid-state" desktop external drives.

Dead just after the warranty

Just 15 days after the warranty expired, my WD Passport 2TB hard drive stopped working. It shows a bad sector error, and the data is no longer accessible. Two terabytes of photos and videos—priceless memories of my loved ones—are lost forever and cannot be recovered.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

If the drive creates same issue with another computer then open a ticket with the error screenshots if any at https://support-en.wd.com/app/askweb our technical team will contact you as soon as possible and resolve your issue.

Please allow me to inform you that WD does not have any in-house data recovery service in order to recover the files from the affected/non-functional hard drives. You may need to contact a Data Recovery company to recover the data.
