Terrible model. Gets stuck in different modes (in LOW but acts like FAN only, surges between different settings), often toggles fan span erratically regardless of what setting it is in. Goes from silent to super loud and all over the place. I even filed a warranty claim and I was sent a new model with the exact same issue. A real disaster of a product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Quiet Heating

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really loved this little heater because it puts out a surprising amount of heat quickly and quietly. First, this little heater has a cool to the touch case, perfect with pets and children who just can’t seem to not touch everything. I have our heater in the floor so it has been knocked over by our dogs wrestling, it immediately shuts off when knocked over. Resetting the heater is easy, unplug no plug it back in, it’s that easy. Controls are super easy on the unit and using the little remote. The unit has high, low and fan only mode along with a simple + or - adjustment. I also liked being able to set the timer so the unit isn’t always on. There is a 20 second cool down when you turn the heater off which is different. The heater definitely works best in bedrooms but it helped a lot in my bigger living room as well. The remote says you need a screwdriver initially for setup but actually you just pull a plastic tab and everything is ready. In fan only mode the heater is noisier but not by much, I never actually find it necessary to use just the fan. Additionally, you have a cord storage in the back of the heater for seasonal storage. This is a great little heater that really surprised me at how warm my room got within a half hour.

The heater has a feature that blows hot air into the room till the room reaches the desired temperature. Unfortunately it fan is loud. But that is not the main problem. The noise is sudden and jarring and loudest when it first kicks in. Forget about staying asleep each time the thermostat initiates the next heat up routine. Is this a flaw of the design or of my unit or of the user interface? Other than that it heats well and heats up a room with warm air. It is pleasing to look at and to touch. But oh the noise! If you get turned on by the sound of commercial jets thrusting down the runway you will love this.

Powerful

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This whole room heater from Vornado is small yet powerful! I use it on the bedroom and it didn't take long for it to heat the room. It comes with a remote or you can use the buttons on the heater. Use high or low settings, timer, and set the temperature. Even has a nighttime mode which non essential lights are turned off. The fan blows the warm air out really good. After it reaches the set temperature the fan shuts off but warm air still comes out keeping the temperature steady. Remote can be kept underneath with magnetic storage. Automatically shuts off if air is blocked or if the heater falls over.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great space/room heater

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received a Vornado R5 heater a week ago to test and write up an honest review. It had no problem heating my 14 foot by 20 foot great room with large windows on two sides during last week's cold spell here in Wisconsin. It is lightweight, easy to use, has a nice digital display, is cold to the touch, has a nice long cord and has an automatic shut off should it ever tip over. If there is a con to it, the fan is a little noisy on the high setting. I would recommend it if you are looking to heat up a room!!

It's great compact size, it heats really well. Only thing that is unfortunate is how many times it turns on and off after it reaches the heat needed or wanted in that specific room. But besides that it does a great job. I love Vornado products.

One Extremely Powerful,Stylish Compact Room Heater

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Velocity 5R space heater has been the perfect space heater for my home office. With the cost of heating fuel skyrocketing, I needed a heater for those cold New England days when working in my office, the Velocity 5R was the ideal solution. The compact size, only a foot high and about 10 inches wide allows it to sit easily in a corner under my table. I have been surprised at its capability to easily heat my 20 ft by 15 ft attic office. It has two speeds, high puts out a lot of heat fast while low maintains a comfortable temperature for the rest of the day. On low, the fan noise is very quiet. Most of the time I don’t even realize it’s on and when on a call, you can’t hear it in the background. The control panel on the top is simple but has all the controls I need, fan speed, temperature and even a timer. It also comes with a small remote that can control all the settings, so I don’t need to get up every time I want to change a setting. I am very impressed with the safety features, when shutting it off, the fan will run for 20 seconds to ensure the heating elements are cooled. It also has a switch on the bottom so that when the unit is lifted or falls over, it automatically shuts off. The overall design is slick and modern looking, adding to its appeal. Overall, I like everything about the Velocity 5R, size, power, look, features, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a room heater.

Unit Does Not Function As Instructions Indicate

The controls are very difficult to operate, and they don't always do what one would expect. When I called for help, I was instructed to reset the unit by punching a button on the bottom 10 times, an instruction that appears nowhere in the printed material that came with the unit. I was also instructed to shut it off by pulling the plug from the wall socket, which contradicts the instructions, which say the unit needs to cool down before stopping. Since the only way to get it to shut off is to pull the plug, I assume it will wear out sooner than it should. So, while it does warm the room adequately (although not to the temperature indicated on the unit), I'm not happy with it.
