Awesome hood should give it 5 stars

I love it.Works awesome. Noise level is great considering how much air it moves and it moves a lot.It got 4 stars because it is not 100% dishwasher safe. While the filters are stainless and dishwasher safe, the handles on them are anodized aluminum and not dishwasher friendly. The finish got damaged. See pic. Doesn't bother me but I was bummed.

Nice, but Very Noisy

The UC-PS18 is a very nice looking kitchen appliance. It removes cooking odors much better than the GE Profile unit, which came with my new home construction. My biggest issue with this product is that it's TOO NOISY. Don't plan to have a conversation if you're working near the UC-PS18. You will not hear a thing. The sound specifications included with the product description need to reflect actual dBA (Decibel) AND Sone levels. I based my purchase decision on the Sone level. Hauslane offered to accept a return; however, I decided to live with it because of the disruption a return will cause. I'm considering changing the exhaust method to inline and will make that decision after I've spoken to a professional.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

An excellent product - from an engineer

The UC-PS18 is an excellent range hood. I read the reviews and shopped around. I chose the PS18 based on air flow, weight (one of lighter 800 cfm ranges), height (one of the shortest) and reviews. I've installed the unit and have started using it. I had no trouble with installation, see paragraph below. The instructions were very helpful. The unit arrived without any damage and my initial power tests were successful. I ducted it from above. The butterfly valve was of good quality. The unit is sturdy and professional looking. Even the packaging was well done. Fired up for first time today with ducting (I had a long run with a few elbows so it took some time). Not noise, excellent airflow. People complained about the bell sound every time powered on or change flow. I see no problem with it.
I was concerned with installation as so many of the reviewers expressed difficulty. I had no difficulty because I followed directions. I built a platform and raised the unit via a car jack. I raised it to mark the location of the mounting hardware. I used 1/4 carriage bolts that were installed on the range prior to raising up the range. Once the bolts appeared in the cabinet above I applied bolts and turned them as I raised the unit.
Overall, I am very pleased. I am an engineer am very fussy. I like things that are well made and work well. This range is both. Worth the money.

Quality, well made and great functioning fan

Well made fan. Does an excellent job with cooking odours and is relatively quiet at low speeds. It is noisier at higher speeds however you really don't need to use the high speeds as it does the job at the lowest speeds,Comes with everything you need and buying experience was smooth and fast. Regretably, as reported by many others for some time, it still does not come with an install template which one would think would be an easy thing for Hauslane to add. Comes with very light duty install screws which like many others, I switched to heavier duty bolts. With a few improvements to the install, I would happily give this fan a five star rating.

I love doing high-heat cooking such as stir fry and steaks. However, my hood fan was not efficient so the house always smelled like food afterward, which I really dislike. After a few years, I realized it was better for my health (and sanity) to invest in a better fan.
I had compared multiple brands before purchasing Hauselane UC-PS18 as it has the best price for the features. The fan was well-built and came with everything. The best yet, I can place the oil filters/catcher into the dishwasher which is a big bonus.
I did the plastic cup suction test and watched the cup stick and fell from the hood with great satisfaction. Now my house no longer smells like Chinese food/steak and that makes me very happy.

Runs well and has great auction! The fan is t too loud and it has sleek touch controls with auto-off timer. Be careful when handling the filters for cleaning as some edges are sharp.

Purchased the PS18 about a month ago and its been a great rangehood so far. Excellent build quality and very heavy. The only negatives is at med to high fan speeds, there's a rattle near the back and the lights aren't bright enough.
