Setting the Q&A right

This vent hood is a beast and it's beautiful. Never thought a vent hood could be this good, or make this big a difference in cooking. Totally keeps cooking smells and grease/oils out of the kitchen. It replaced my OTR microwave, which was worthless at venting cooking odor. We bought a sub-compact microwave to put on the counter, since we never used all that microwave space in the first place.
Having said all that, I feel like I need to comment quickly on the Q&A's that I have found on various other sites that sell this unit, which to me were un-true:
- The display has backlit buttons to see them in the dark. As soon as the power button is pressed, the option buttons back light. For some reason, people kept saying the buttons did not.
- When turning on the fan, it defaults to the last used speed. For some reason, people kept saying it defaults to high speed. If you last left it on low, it starts on low the next time you use it.
- Removing the protective plastic on the filter screens took my wife and I less than 5 minutes. For some reason, people kept complaining that it took forever (one person said hours) to get the plastic film removed. It was easy and fast!
Now, some observations from doing the install together with my wife: Do take a good amount of time evaluating the vent slot, if you are venting to the rear. We had to modify our vent (previously used on the above stove microwave) to get the height correct. This involved removing drywall, cutting the steel vent, hammering/forming, caulk, and copious amounts of foil tape. In addition, to get a good seal to the wall vent hole, we picked up some foam seal tape 3/8"x3/4" wide (like the kind that is used for around doors/windows). We attached this foam to the back of the vent unit. This allowed us to push the unit back against the wall and seal up the exhaust port very well.
We also removed the vent flapper because our outside vent already had a spring-loaded vent flapper to keep outside air from getting into our house.
To make lifting the unit up and installing easier, we removed the stove and put bar chairs under the space. Then, we could just sit and lift the unit above our heads without straining our backs.
Finally, the unit has this soft, but not-too-loud, chime sound when you press the button. It just put the icing on the cake. The stainless finish matched out GE stove and refrigerator as well.
Very satisfied with our purchase. Worth every penny spent.

Best quality for this price range

Beautiful design and great quality build. Excellent finish on the edges. Front corners can still be a hazard even though they are slightly rounded. Oil drip tray is beautifully integrated and easy to remove and clean. Filters are easy to clean, but there are sharp edges inside. Best to clean them in the dishwasher. Filter removal and replacement is easy. Great airflow when you consider that my ductwork has 2 turns. Lowest fan setting will hold a heavy paper towel easily. Sounds louder than the 1.5 to 3.8 Sones rating. My old fan was louder with less airflow so I'm not complaining. Biggest negatives are 2 things. The light bulbs are expensive. Removal is easy, but replacement is difficult. It requires placing 2 tiny knobs on the bulb into 2 tiny holes in a socket which has a lot of space. You can't see anything inside the hood while you are replacing the bulb. You have to do it by feel. Once the knobs are in place, you have to turn the bulb about an 1/8. The solution is for Hauslane to make a socket with a fit to the bulb so that there is no guesswork on the position of the knobs in relation to the holes.

Beautiful appearance, quality components, and powerful fans are all evident.
After taking out the old, cheaply made competitors unit and laying both side by side on the floor, you can easily see the quality of the Hauslane hood.
It’s been operating for a few days now, with cooking, and it does a much better job of capturing the heat and odors from both the oven and stove top.
Time will tell on its durability.

Design is fantastic. I’m so thankful I returned the GE range hood and bought this one. Easy to clean, commands attention and compliments, and vents at the commercial level. HIGHLY recommend and will buy again.

Bought this hood to replace the monster microwave over the stove and it is fantastic. Definitely sucks the smoke out and the fan isn't too loud. Would totally recommend and would buy another one for the next property my wife and I purchase.

Purchased the UC-PS18 directly from Hausline.com. No issues with shipping; no damage, packed well.
The dual fans are very quiet. I used the 6 inch duct option to create a vertical duct of about 3 feet and then about 6 feet horizontally above the cabinet to exhaust out of the rear of the house.
The airflow is not fast moving but you can tell it is moving a lot of air, removing almost all heat and smoke quickly. We cooked bacon without any issues and fried chicken without any issues.
One Issue - and it may have been related to installation - on the 2nd through 6th fan setting, there is a low high pitch whistling sound. It is not coming from the fan directly but its related to the airflow. It is not very loud but noticeable.

Awesome Stove/kitchen fan super-powerful

The fan is outstanding. It was a great choice on our part. We replaced an overhead microwave/fan. The installation was an incredible challenge. Make sure you plan it. Strongly recommend three (3) people or cabinet jacks to line the four (4) screws hanging down from the overhead cabinet. They do NOT provide a template for your screws. Create your own template with some printer paper. Drill tiny holes for the screws to guide into the cabinet. Take off the cover and grills for the fans underneath. Put the screws in only halfway or less. Lining it up takes some grunt work. Make sure those washers are inside the vent (just jiggle like crazy if they get skewed to get them to pop-in). Be patient. Tighten the front ones first. Get a small hand to snake-in and get to the back ones. Like putting lugnuts on a tire on car, alternate going up (screwing). I personally had the screws in the back lower than the front ones before lifting fan into place onto the washers. It was a challenge, but WOW what a fan.

Love this hood!!

Have now had thisrange hood for about 6months and it's fabulous! I was worried about levelof noise and yes you're definitely going to hear it when you have it on the high levels but it works so well to eliminate smoke and odors, and as someone who enjoys cooking that's what you need. On lower levels noise is minimal. Also love the fact you can put the easily removable vents in the dishwasher. Lights are perfect and you can use them without the fan. My only teeny complaint would be the touch pad shows all the fingerprints and any oils..also have to be very mindful when wiping touchpad clean as it scratches easily. But other than that an excellent product!!!
