Forced to buy the HP product because they updated existing software to block my functional cartridges.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I relate to your sentiments about being required to buy a new product. I think there has been a misunderstanding here, as you don't need a new cartridge. I will provide a solution.
Periodically, the firmware software automatically updates. Occasionally, these updates cause error messages. To counter this, revert to the previous software version. The cartridge should continue to work.

It's a shame that HP changed the firmware of my printer so I can no longer use third party toner. HP toner is more expensive, and the difference in price adds up over time.
