A small flat screen TV we have on top of a cable box was causing the cable box to overheat. This black standard steel monitor stand is ideal to give an inch of clearance above the cable box for ventilation and it is unobtrusive.

Exactly what I was looking for

I've been searching for months for a stand for my laptop. The standard laptop stands are expensive and don't raise the screen up high enough. This is perfect. I use an external keyboard so the height of the laptop's keyboard doesn't bother me. However it would be too high for anyone who uses the built in keys.The space under the shelf is an added bonus.

I found that I was looking downward all the time when on the computer. Simply lifting the monitor up 4" made all the difference and now I can sit upright and look straight ahead to view the screen. And it cost a lot less than a monitor that lifts up and down. Give it a try!
