I want everyone to know the coast HX5 is simply awesome. I am a mechanic and I use the light probably 6 out of 8 hours a day and I will get at least 3 days off one battery. It’s small enough to fit in my shirt pocket and it’s not heavy at all. It clips on the bill of my hat for hands free use and is very bright for a single battery light. In my opinion you can’t go wrong with the HX5. I’ve put it to the test and it’s passed every one. I would highly recommend it to anyone and coast is a company that has earned my business (great company)

I bought my first HX5 a while back and it's become my trusty little sidekick ever since. It puts out plenty of light, doesn't need special batteries, and doesn't have multiple effects- which I do not need. It is durable and I love the sliding focus. It sometimes gets a little unreliable when it decides not to come on, but that's a relatively rare occurrence. And, the belt clip broke on me for no good reason. I replaced the belt clip because I wanted to stick with the light. I probably could have bought a Chinese-made light for near the same price as the clip, but I didn't do it. I like that Coast is a U.S. company, but not only because of that but because they have good, fast customer service and make good products. I recently bought the 600R light, which I am also very happy with, so far.

Second Flashlight that has failed

I bought two of these flashlights for every day carry and use at work. BOTH failed after a couple of months. No warning they just at some point fail to turn on. Fresh battery no use, Direct contact from battery to sidewall ,,,No use. Great size POOR quality/ I will never purchase another Coast product for myself or my work.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
