Flashlight was great for 1 year for work as maintenance, the switch started to fail. Bought another. I decided to Summit for warranty. Coast sent me a new one warranty process was an easy. Will be buying an using coast from now on

I was reluctant to write a review because I don’t really like this new one. But I am reviewing in good faith because companies can do the best when they receive honest unfiltered feedback on their products. Constructive criticism:).
The HP1 was one of my primary EDCs, but now the HX5 mostly sits in the drawer.
The HX5 is a solid build, looks nice and gift box is vey nice as well. So it’s best to keep in mind for a new user, they may be very happy with it as is. But I have the HP1 to compare to so that’s where the criticisms will be.
1.the button is more recessed making it more difficult to lock “on” and “off”.
2. The engagement point for the momentary switch is deeper, it’s not as easy as it was to engage in the HP1.
3. The LED color spectrum is noticeably more “green” than compared to the warmer more natural light of the HP1. It’s not a terrible green; but it does kind of remind me of how all the matrix movies kind of have that subtle green hue that makes the real world seem oddly artificial.
I don’t use it enough to have experienced the tail switch failing like some have reviewed. I wouldn’t knock this if anyone bought, owns or gives this as a gift. But would personally buy or give this? unfortunately I have to say no. Sorry.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great concept but poor finishing

I have purchased this flashlight 3 times. I have purchased it as a gift for my sons
Why? I love the size, fits perfect in my pocket, I am always needing a light in an instant. I love that it takes AA batteries, easy to switch out when needed. The light is very bright, especially for its size. The body is quality durable construction. The Achilles heel is its button for turning it on and off. It is made of cheap plastic so it is not reliable. It is why I have needed to purchase it multiple times. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have had it fail to illuminate and have stuck in my pocket and later discover it shining. So I have mixed feelings about this. I have fourth flashlight waiting for when the inevitable failure of the the current (3rd) flashlight. It would be perfect if the on/off button was reliable.

I bought the hx5 when they first came out years ago. Been the best hunting/mechanic light i ever owned. The customer service is top notch! I had one light quit and they replaced it no questions asked. I would recommend this light based on the warranty department alone
