Have used this lite for several years now as a nurse working 12 hour night shifts. The HX5 has been a perfect solution for checking on patients and equipment in the middle of the night without disturbing patient or family. I use the focused beam for navigating around the room, then the spread beam to complete my tasks. Perfect size, perfect brightness, and has never failed me in past several years.
First of all this light is perfect for edc. I use my light 10 times or more every day for work. Its small, light ,bright, easily operated with one hand, and uses 1 aa battery. Not only that. Customer service is great. Ive been through 2 of these light in 3 years, because i USE THEM in construction. They have been dropped 20 feet, left on for a day at a time, submerged and all kinds of things. When the second one gave out, i sent in my warranty claim for both. Guess what. A couple days later, 2 new flashlight in the mail box. The light, company and, service associate are great. Dont wast your money on any other company.
I’ve had this light for about a year and I have to say it’s the most used light that I own. I have a few Coast lights and love them all but this one is just so handy. This was actually a warranty replacement but I will say that Coast DOES stand behind their products. Warranty replacement was sent free of charge in just a couple of days after filing a claim. Great people to do business with and will definitely be a return customer.
This light is my everyday carry (edc) I own 3 . One stays on my person 2 in my truck just in case I need to pass some out. (I build tunnels) . The light is bright and and the size is nice in the pocket. After 5 years my edc HX5 failed . I sent one email to the company and had a great experience with the warranty department , I had a replacement 5 days later . The HX5 value can’t be beat. Lifetime warranty !!!! I recommend this light to everyone.
The HX5 flashlight would be a great flashlight but the switch is poorly designed. Works fine for occasional, short use but fails when the flashlight is used for an extended period of time. I go for long walks in the morning, before dawn, and use the HX5 for the duration. If I switch off the HX5 at some point (to conserve battery) and try to switch it back on, it never works. The device needs a 10 minute "rest period" before it can be re-activated. This is unacceptable and makes this flashlight unusable for extended outdoor use.

Hi Charles,
The behavior you are experiencing is created when the battery is getting near the end of its life. The power needed to turn on the light is higher than what is needed to keep the flashlight running. When this happens, the battery is "resting," which allows the voltage to raise in a minimal amount but allows it to hit the point where the flashlight can now turn on.
