Doesnt support 3rd party labels

You can tell DYMO are owned by private equity...
3rd party labels no longer work
RFID chips on every DYMO branded roll and printer is designed to only accept DYMO branded rolls.....Which are 10 times the price of 3rd party ones.
Had my 450 printer for 5 years, was an absolute workhorse.
Now switching to another manufacturer

Forced use of proprietary labels ruins the product

What a despicable money grab! This terrible decision for the printer to only accept official DYMO printer labels is colossal blunder and is clearly not what customers want. Unless remedied quickly, it will eventually put DYMO out of business. Does anyone really believe their reasoning for that "The LabelWriter 5 series printer only use DYMO authentic labels because using authentic labels reduces issues such as label jams and excessive feeding." What a joke. WE ALL KNOW ITS A MONEY GRAB so stop lying to our faces. I understand its printed on the box and on promotional materials, but that doesn't make it any better. Instead of improving on the 450, they decided to drive all their customers away! DYMO doesn't fully realize that this will sour people to their brand and people will stay away from all future products with the DYMO name.

Say NO to DRM Labels!

Unacceptable practice of moving to DRM labels. My hospital uses custom printer labels and because this printer REQUIRES it to be genuine DYMO paper I'm not able to use it. Terrible business choice. Email me when you guys release this model without the lame money grab.

Unless. Utterly useless. Buy something else!

Had to buy one of these to replace a 450 (which worked) because Demo locked the original software to an older version of Mac OS.
Okay, install the new software. Then find the new software won't drive the old 450 - so you have to buy a 550.
The 550 then refuses to use the old Dymo labels, which don't have an RFID chip. So you now have to buy super-expensive Demo labels.
The new software is awful, lacking the ability to have different fonts in the same text box.
And the new printer drivers don't work properly on a Mac, which means the driver has to be deleted and reinstalled every few days.
It's difficult to put into works how utterly terrible this product is. The old 450 was simple and brilliant. This is an expensive paperweight.
Buy something else instead.

The transition to RFID-enabled labels was made to ensure greater precision, to prevent issues such as excessive feeding, label jams, and misaligned printing.

To address the specific challenges with the Mac setup, we recommend installing the latest version of the DYMO software, which includes updates to improve compatibility with macOS. You can download it from our official website. This should resolve many of the driver-related issues you mentioned.

Don't Purchase 550 for RX Label use

This printer has great potential with the new ethernet port, however in our industry there are over 28,000 Veterinary clinics in the US. Most all of these hospitals currently have at least one Dymo 330, 400, or 450 for the printing of RX labels. These hospitals will unfortunately not be able to use this product! This new printer does not allow for generic manufactured labels. Labels must come from Dymo, yet Dymo doesn't produce a RX sized label that is printed with a warning "Keep out of Children's Reach. For Veterinary Use only". This label is required by law by the FDA. CFR - Code of Federal Regulations Title 21.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
