Stick with the 450!

Driver install is a pain and I cant use any of my off brand labels.

Could be great if worked as supposed to, but no.

Dymo Labelwriter 550 is a miserable pain in every part of the anatomy. It took 7 (yes, seven!) tries to get one address label to print out correctly. Computer screen shows the address, but printer gives out too much space on the label and not enough of the lines. Sometimes above the address, sometimes below. Sometimes top part of the label is chopped off, sometimes the bottom part is chopped off. And no instruction booklet!.

Stupid Change

I give no stars, honestly. Stupid idea of requiring BRAND microchipped labels unless you offer more options. I recognize the fact that this printer was supposed to be only compatible with authentic Dymo labels and while I will begrudgingly concede to that stupid move to keep people buying brand labels, I have also found that there are not as many options of label kinds or the ability to get custom labels. I have boxes of color DYMO BRAND labels and older Dymo labels that have been rendered useless. The company logo and color labels used for identifying products are specifically a problem. Whoever thought this was a good idea is an idiot. It's not entirely that we refuse to buy authentic Dymo labels (though we may do it with an eyeroll), it is that we can't use CUSTOM labels. I also cannot seem to find more than a couple of sizes available. Stupid.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Incredibly slow - get coffee to print each label

The 550 is incredibly slow to print on Mac OS. Apparently, from what I have researched, it goes out to a Dymo server to validate the brand of the label FOR EVERY LABEL. And, the Dymo server, being bombarded by every printer for every label is slow to respond. p.s. I am on a Mac Studio (fast) and a 1 GB fibre line for Internet (fast).
If the network access per label is true, it represents the pinnacle of bad programming, bad product management and a bad company for not addressing this for years.

Please know that our LabelWriter 550 is not compatible with any Server, the print job does not go through any Dymo server to validate the brand of the label for every label. The network access per label is not true.

If the printer is printing slow, please try the troubleshooting steps below to resolve the issue:
1. Remove both the power and the USB cable from the back of your LabelWriter.
2. Remove the labels from the feed path (use the black release lever located on the left-hand side).
3. Click on the Apple logo on the top left corner and go to System Preferences → Printers and Scanners.
4. Select LabelWriter and select 'Open Print Queue' from the right-hand side. If there is anything in the queue cancel it.
5. Remove LabelWriter from Printers and Scanners using the minus button ('-') on the bottom of the list.
6. Re-attach the power cable to the LabelWriter.
7. Re-insert the labels into the feed path.
8. Re-attach the USB cable (ensure that it is connected to the computer)
9. ​Open Software, create a label, and print.

Software not working

I upgraded from a 400 Turbo to a 550 Turbo and upgraded software. Wow what a joke. Will not load after installation. I have an Apple Mac Mini with iOS 14 Sonoma. My 400 Turbo did not have any issues and Now i wish I did not upgrade.

I don't like it because it doesn't work for me.

I bought this a few months ago and could not use my labels.
So I ordered labels and have been unable to use them because I cannot get the program to install and even work. I had the 440 and liked it until it stopped working.

The compatible software name for Windows computers is DYMO Connect Software version 1.4.5 and for Mac computers, it's DYMO Connect Software version 1.4.5.

NOTE: Ensure your printer USB is disconnected from your computer port during this entire process and reconnect it after the installation is complete

Can get it to print for my Mac

I have a Mac, and I had a Dymo 450 for years and it no longer worked. I got the 550 and I don't understand how to use it. I have done everything as required in the order suggested. Tried a test print and dymo doesn't recognize my printer. It shouldn't be this difficult. Help!!!! I'm running System 14.1.1

To resolve this issue, please make sure you have the DYMO Connect software installed. We recommend connecting the USB cable directly to the computer as we do not support the use of USB hubs/adapter/docking stations. For a Mac we recommend using the USB cable Type B to Type C as that will allow you to connect the printer directly.
