This was the worst purchase for our office. The software does not function with mac and behaves like malware. What a nightmare!

New sadly doesn't mean improved
on April 6, 2023

I have used multiple Dymo LabelWriters over the years and have loved them. But it seems like with each new printer and software update, they get worse in terms of label compatibility and the software becomes less intuitive and harder to use. Very disappointing. My 450 that I had used for years suddenly stopped working, so I replaced it with a 550, and found that the label I used - a 3.5" x 1 7/8" large address label - isn't compatible with the new printer. And it appears that the only label that is of similar height is 4" long and therefore can't be used for a file folder, which means I have to swap out rolls of labels if I want to go from labeling files to printing a shipping label. So once again, I got a new product with less functionality. Dymo, it's time to stop screwing up what made your product good to start with. Improvements have to actually improve usability.

Hi Amy,
We apologize our product has not met your expectations. Our DYMO 5 series printers have been designed to work specifically with our genuine DYMO labels to prevent issues like excessive feeding, label jams and misaligned printing. This 5 series printers works with all the same sizes as LabelWriter 450 but works only with labels which are manufactured after April 2020 (RFID chip is introduced into label rolls from April 2020 and they are detected by NF readers in 5 series printers). 11/8 x 31/2 is still compatible with LabelWriter 550. However, your feedback is valuable for us to improve ourselves.
If you are still having issues, please reach out to us via our website or through LiveChat. We’re available Mon.-Fri. 9am - 5pm Eastern Time.

Just purchased this product and, unfortunately, it does not recognize the labels provided (which were large address). In addition, the printer only lists the one the label which (again) is the correct label.

Hello.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us.
We would like to inform you that LabelWriter 5 series printers are compatible with all DYMO Labels manufactured after April 2020.
To determine if your labels are compatible with the LabelWriter 5 series, please check the packaging or the core of the labels. If the packaging is blue with two black dots next to the barcode or green with the recycling sign at the left bottom corner of the front part of the package, then the labels are compatible. Additionally, if there is a DYMO logo on the core of the labels, they are compatible with the LabelWriter 5 series.
If your labels are compatible, please power cycle the printer by removing the power, labels, and USB cable. Press the power button 15 times. Re-connect the power, insert the labels making sure they are aligned all the way to the left and the perforations are on your left side. Press the forward button to feed one label then connect the USB cable and try to print a label.
Furthermore, if the steps do not work, we recommend cleaning the printer sensors by following the step-by-step instructions on our Help Center.
If you are still having issues (If you have more questions or feedback), please reach out to us via our website or through LiveChat. We’re available Mon.-Fri. 9am - 5pm Eastern Time.

I miss the older for 450 over this model.

I loved the Dymo 450 and used it for years. Unfortunately, I thought I was upgrading with the 550 Turbo and it turned out to be a bust when it forces you to use their labels. I'll be looking for a used 450. So many 1 star reviews.

Buyer Beware

I am very, very frustrated with this model of label printer. Our organization has been using the 450 model with some hiccups but nothing compared to the 550. First was the label issue - we have to buy only dymo brand labels which are four times the cost of a generic brand. I get that dymo wants the label business, but don't gouge your customers. Second - it next to impossible to get our computers and program to detect these printers. We've installed, ran updates, etc... etc.... We are government funded so have very limited budgets. Will try a more expensive label printer - more upfront cost, but if I can get it working and use less expensive labels it will be a win in the long run. Dymo, you are ruining your reputation with this model.

Hello.

We recommend using DYMO authentic labels as they reduce issues such as misaligned printing, excessive feeding, and label jams. We also guarantee that our labels will provide you with the best user experience.
To assist you in resolving this problem, we recommend that you thoroughly uninstall the DYMO Software and then reinstall the DYMO Connect Software version 1.4.3. Please remember to unplug your printer's USB cable from your computer's connection throughout this process. Visit dymo.com> Support > Dymo Help Center> Software > How to thoroughly uninstall DYMO Software for additional in-depth instructions on how to perform clean uninstall and reinstallation.
Additionally, we recommend directly connecting your printer's USB port to your computer after the entire process. As USB hubs and adapters slow down communication between the printer and the computer, our printers are incompatible with them.
If you are still having issues (If you have more questions or feedback), please reach out to us via our website or through LiveChat. We’re available Mon.-Fri. 9 am - 5 pm Eastern Time.
