Dymo has now introduced an RFID chip in their label rolls to prevent consumers from using third party label rolls.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not worth the money

Gets jammed, have to reset (unplug and plug back in) all the time, now it says DYMO labels are not detected, I’ve already cleaned the sensor with alcohol and qtips. I keep trying to contact DYMO support No one ever answers.

Please make sure you are using authentic Dymo chipped labels and they are inserted correctly in the printer. The labels should be all the way to the left and holes in between each label and the next should be to the left side as well.

DYMO doesn't play nice, reducing versatility

I'm very disappointed with DYMO turning to proprietary. DYMO's label selection is LAME-O. DYMO, you could have increased your label section to meet your customer's needs before you released your new product. I don't think I'll be buying DYMO after my 400 series dies.

It sucks! Let me pick my own label size!

I recently purchased this 5XL printer, to add to my arsenal of 4XL printers, that are no longer available in the line up. When printing postage, say using Stamps.com, the printer is set up wrong, and the programs don't even know you're trying to print to roll labels. In the Dymo Connect Program is shows the labels as being 4" long x 6" wide. Can't print anything, as it won't allow me to change it to the proper dimensions.

For steps on how to set up the printer correctly, please navigate to dymo.com>Support>DYMO Help Center and open the article titled: How do I print PDF documents with my LabelWriter? and How do I fix misaligned print issues when printing from 3rd party software?
To select the correct label size in DYMO Connect, please click NEW and click the drop-down menu under Label Type then choose the correct label size. Please make sure the labels inserted are DYMO Authentic labels manufactured after April 2020.

I am using a replacement machine sent to me by Dymo, but it too is one of the most unreliable computer products I have ever used. When it works, it prints well, and I am satisfied. But then it fails, giving misleading messages such as label jams and the like. The labels are never jammed. The problem seems to be with the printer's ability to communicate with the computer. It can print only one label at a time and then sends varying error messages. It too often wastes 4 or 5 labels in one printing, if it does work. I am taking it offline and taking it to the dump on Monday. As I said, this was a replacement product but it is no better than the original I purchased.

The issue you are encountering could be due to two possible reasons: the labels may not be properly inserted, or there could be a problem with the sensors responsible for stopping the labels after each print. We recommend double-checking the label alignment and ensuring you are using the DYMO labels, and also that the sensors are clean and functioning correctly. I brought this a couple of months ago without realising I was locking myself into ONLY using DYMO labels or it does not work, the price of these labels for just putting on my shipping parcels is just not good business practice, I will throw my new printer in the bin and buy a different brand that does not blackmail their customers. Also cannot understand why the high rating when so many people are upset about this obviously they do not allow bad ratings on their site.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this labelwriter 5XL This machine prints very high-quality labels, it prints out fast, and then you just tear them off of the machine. They are extremely easy to peel off of the backing and the adhesive is very nice. It is amazing. Simple easy to set up and use, labels are clear, read the specs, it can do many things and it is very intuitive, fast, and can swap label rolls from one format to another in seconds.You can print precise label quantities with ease. Set up was a breeze- you first need to download the software from the quick start guide, you then connect the power to your label writer, then plug it into your computer to get started. From there, the software will walk you through everything you need to know. Highly recommend

Excellent for quick printing

I've been using this unit for about 6 years and am still loving that it is so easy to print to it. Several features that have been beneficial: 1) Printing file folder labels on the spot instead of making a list and then printing; 2) Printing hanging file folder tabs that show the label on both sides of the tab; 3) Printing multiple copies of the same label from a single label rather than copying and pasting to each cell in a full sheet of paper; and 4) Placing a rubber band around the roll of single labels, dropping in my purse or computer bag and heading out with them for future use and not having to fuss with or try to protect the corners of 8.5 x 11 sheets of labels. This particular unit has two label options, so it's easy to print file folders then hanging tabs in a couple of easy steps without having to change label types in the printer.
