Not so bluetooth compatible

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given the opportunity to review the DYMO LABEL WRITER5XL. Firstly , the sleek bright packaging is an Eye catcher. Secondly, very easy to add the labels to the machine.. one issue I do see is although it says bluetooth compatible you really can not print via your phone it has to be wired up to your laptop.

The DYMO LabelWriter 5XL is not compatible with a Bluetooth connection, as this device can only be used on desktops and computers with Windows and Mac operating systems.
However, we have a printer that is compatible with Bluetooth connectivity for both iOS and Android phones, which is called the DYMO LetraTag 200B.

Doesn’t work with Dymo labels (post 2020!) avoid

I bought official Dymo labels only and mine still NEVER works! HUGE WASTE OF TIME! I like to buy the best I can for efficiency and this has been so disappointing.
I would also add that I have spent 3 hours going through DYMO tech support and understand the labels must be Dymo AND printed post 2020 and I have all those boxes checked and the thing never works! Awful. Sending in for warranty and refund.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not convenient

Does not accept non Dymo 5XL labels… Just to be clear, if you order labels for 4XL it will also not work. To make matters worse, it’s difficult to find 5XL labels. I’ve wasted so much time with this stupid printer.

To clarify, LabelWriter 5 series printers are compatible with all DYMO Labels manufactured after April 2020. If you have labels that were purchased prior to this date, they will only be compatible if:
1. The packaging is blue with two black dots next to the barcode
OR
2. The packaging is green with a recycle symbol at the front.
If you do not have the box anymore, you can check the core of the labels for the DYMO logo. If it is present, the labels are compatible with the LabelWriter 5 series printer.

Buy if you want to be frustrated

I am not sure how Dymo can continue to get away with this. I thought the 4xl was terrible. I didn't think it could get any worse. It does. DO NOT BUY. The printer will work and print 1 label. But then chooses not to print the next. Error. No explanation. Just Error. I successfully print 1 label per 25. Sometimes in order to get it to work I have forward the labels, wasting 2-3 before it will print. Their software is also from Windows 98. I have installed, uninstalled several times. I am going to send a note to Shopify to remove Dymo as a recommended product. I'm the sucker for buying their products.

DYMO doesn't play nice, reducing versatility

I'm very disappointed with DYMO turning to proprietary. DYMO's label selection is LAME-O. DYMO, you could have increased your label section to meet your customer's needs before you released your new product. I don't think I'll be buying DYMO after my 400 series dies.

Good on Mac, bad on windows

A great printer providing you use a Mac! I have tried to print labels from Royal Mail and PDFs using Windows 11 and it appears to be IMPOSSIBLE. Dymo please advise, I love my 5XL but my employees can't use it with a PC!
