Great UPS

I purchased this UPS when the one I was previously using needed a new battery. This unit was a higher power rating and was only $10.00 more than just a battery.
When I received the unit I discovered that the software that comes with it was much better than the software with the older unit. It allows me to schedule when alarms will sound, meaning that it won't beep in the middle of the night and wake my wife. For this alone, she gives it an A++!
It was easy to setup and I've had no problems with it. I would recommend it highly, myself.

Works as promised

This is not a glamorous product - it just sits there under my desk doing its job. But it does its job. I live in an area with lots of lightning storms, sometimes with short power outages, and that is what this product is for. I have not had damage to any equipment that was plugged into this product, and in terms of battery backup, I often realize that there was a very short power outage due to the beep from the UPS rather than from lights blinking or the like - in other words, it response very quickly. Of course it is a "550" with limits on its UPS capabilities, but I got what I paid for and more. It is what I needed. I am very pleased.

Excellent product and service

My previous unit was 5 or 6 years old when the battery failed. I researched replacing the battery, but I wanted an APC replacement, not some after market product. Upon contacting APC, I was advised of their replacement program. I purchased an entirely new unit for a VERY reasonable cost, and they shipped it, plus provided a free shipping label for me to return the outdated model to them. Excellent program and great customer service! The phone representative who assisted me was also extremely helpful, and very friendly.

At only 17 months old this UPS worked very well until recently, when it could only give 15-20 seconds of backup during a recent power outage. Normally it gives about 10 minutes, enough time to shut down the computer properly. It seems the battery is no more good and it or the entire unit needs replacing. A previous APC UPS I owned worked for about 3-4 years before quitting. At this time I cannot recommend this model to anyone based on my experience. Maybe APC will step up and replace it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

APC 550 great product!

Our small business has 8 of these for our PC workstations and they work great when the power goes out. It gives us plenty of time to save our work before shutting down if the power stays out for an extended period. I also like the fact that APC gives you a return shipping label so you can ship an old unit that you're replacing back to them for free, and they gave us a discount for the new unit. The units are guaranteed for 3 years. Very happy with this product.

XBOX One savior

Recently connected our XBOX & TV to this battery backup. We don't get many power outages, but we did experience a few during Christmas break. It seems to have save a few XBOX games and, with that, many headaches for mom and dad.

Solving the Plug Spacing Problem

Peripherals that connect to the unit via a brick or oversized plug certainly do hog the adjacent receptacles. I solve the problem with 10" heavy duty (10 gauge) mini extension cords from Amazon. This way I can get those piggy plugs and bricks out of the way. The 10 gauge wire is plenty big to insure no problems.

Works great except for the annoying audible alert

The APC UPS 550VA did what it was supposed to do during our recent power outage. It seamlessly switched over to battery power when AC power went out. I had plenty of time to wrap up my work and shut down the computer safely. However, the audible reminder tone was frequent and absolutely annoying after a few minutes. I had to turn it off to save my sanity. Later when our cell phones needed a charging, I had to move the UPS to the garage to charge the phones. This was extremely inconvenient and made me wish I had purchased the 600VA which has an audible mute.
Pros: Good Value, High Quality, High Confidence Level in 24/7 Uptime
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
