Quiet!

I have an old Fellowes, model PS55 which I purchased for my mother probably in 1997. She has passed and I have used it continuously since 2000. It did a fine job but was noisyand took a lot of time when shredding a lot of paper. i purchased this shredder for two main reasons: increase the amount of material and cross-cut results. I was impressed with the quietness while going through mounds of old files. i used to worry about staples with my old shredder but now I don't even think about them. it does a fine job on old credit cards and I feel safer with the cross-cut features when I recycle the material produced.
Pros: Quiet Operation, Quality Construction, Warranty, Shreds Credit Cards, Staples and CDs, Secure Cut Size, Jam Resistance
Cons: Safety Features

PowerShred Doesn't

This shredder is suppose to take 14 sheets at a time, but continually choked on just 3 sheets of straight fed copy paper. No way would this ever take 14 sheets -- maybe 14 sheets of tissue paper!
Very disappointed with it because I spent the extra money to get the 14 page capacity over the 10 page.
On the plus side it is quieter than my older (and cheaper) Fellowes shredder and I do like the "bin full" indicator.
Pros: Quiet Operation
Cons: Sheet Capacity, Jam Resistance

My last shredder

This is my 3rd and what I believe to be my last shredder purchase. I only gave 4 stars for Performance and Durability because I have not had it long (about 1 month). I don't see any reason for it not to be durable. This is the quietest shredder I have ever had. The baske capacity is very good. If you are looking for a 1 person shredder, I don't think you can go wrong.
Pros: Quiet Operation, Quality Construction, Shreds Credit Cards, Staples and CDs, Safety Features, Jam Resistance
Cons: Sheet Capacity

Great little machine

I had a Fellowes previously and it finally burned out. So I did some research, as I do for everything, and decided on the 79Ci. I ordered it in the afternoon on one day, and it arrived the next morning. WOW! Set it up that day and started using immediately. I don't know why certain reviewers say this machine is noisy. It's much quiter than the last one I had. It is a very smoothe operating shredder, has great safety features, and looks great in my small home office. My only 4 star (style & design) is because I wish the bin/bucket was larger (Design). Style is great. Many people wish for a bigger bin in their reviews and I agree. Just need to empty more often if you do a lot of shredding, Other than that, only one week using but very satisfied so far!
Pros: Quiet Operation, Sheet Capacity, Quality Construction, Warranty, Shreds Credit Cards, Staples and CDs, Service Guarantee, Safety Features, Secure Cut Size, Jam Resistance, Mess Reduction
Cons: needs larger bin

2nd time buy

Our office has used the same shredder for about 5 years. The old one simply stopped working. (When you pressed the "on" button, nothing would happen.) The new one is quieter. It's been an excellent product for our office. Four stars instead of 5 because there's always room for improvement. (Why did the old one stop working? A shredder never seems to handle as many sheets as they claim.)
Pros: Quality Construction, Safety Features, Secure Cut Size, Jam Resistance

So far, so good. Have not used the shredder for any heavy work yet, but soon will. Easy set up and very quiet operation compared to past shredders I have owned/used. Love the larger bin for the shredded material.
Pros: Quiet Operation, Sheet Capacity, Quality Construction, Warranty, Shreds Credit Cards, Staples and CDs, Service Guarantee, Safety Features, Secure Cut Size, Jam Resistance, Mess Reduction

A respectable product

The Fellowes 79ci shredder is a worthy product. It appears durable and is very quiet.
Like every other shredder I've owned (three) it is messy to empty and fills up to the shut-off point quite rapidly. I often find myself stopping to pack down its contents so that it will continue shredding. The paper bin must be re-inserted exactly so that it will start shredding again.
It 'measures' the thickness of paper being inserted but that is essentially a worthless feature. Often, two or three sheets will register a full load as if I'd put in a dozen sheets. I think its sensors are a bit too sensitive. It will also start to shred a document (or documents), stop, back them out, then turn around and keep going again. This is a useful feature but it does waste time.
The Fellowes 79ci is an improvement over my previous one, a Staples brand one of similar size. But it still needs further improvement.
Pros: Quiet Operation, Quality Construction, Shreds Credit Cards, Staples and CDs, Jam Resistance
Cons: Sheet Capacity, Mess Reduction
