I purchased 2 of these; one for our library branch and one for another of our branches. The main reason for purchasing this particular model was the decibel level. Being that we are public libraries we need them to be as quiet as possible. My expectations were exceeded. The noise level is very minimal and hasn't jammed.
Pros: Quiet Operation, Secure Cut Size, Shreds Credit Cards, Staples and CDs

Great shredder

Nice styling and color. Shreds 16 pieces of paper with ease. I even tried 20/22 sheets of paper and the machines jamb proof system indicated I was shredding too many papers but still shredded them. The machine is so quite that I shredded papers at 1:00 AM and my wife did not hear the machine(and she is a very light sleeper). The bin is very easy to remove and empty and re-install. The safesense operation of the machine actually works. I tried that operation several times and the safesense worked every time. Another plus for the shredder are the casters.

Hey there, thank you for your great review! We do recommend that you try to not exceed the recommended 14 page sheet capacity of your shredder as doing so can put strain on the cutting block of your 79Ci and we wouldn’t want anything to interrupt your document destroying cycles.

Amazing Shredder!

I recently purchased this shredder and it is incredible. It lets you know ahead of time before you have the chance of entering too many papers in with its sensor. It lets you know when it needs to cool down and it lets you know when it needs to be emptied so that you can prevent it getting overfilled or jammed. I love this shredder! It is jam (free) packed with everything a shredder needs!

Say goodbye to junk mail

My prior shredder jammed and then completely stopped working so I needed a new one. One thing I do not like is junk mail. With my old shredder, I had to open every piece of mail, junk mail included, and then feed no more than 6 sheets in it at a time. Shredding took a long time and was a chore that no one wanted to do. Researching the various shredders on the market, I found the 79Ci and, based on other reviews and its specifications, I purchased it. Just received it and started shredding 'unopened' mail and this shredder handled it with ease! The 79Ci is quiet when shredding and has a gauge on the right side that indicates how close you are getting to its maximum number of pages it can shred. Very handy to know. I am just very pleased that I can just shred the mail while it is still in the envelopes. Thank you!!!

Disappointed

Rolling wheels make it difficult to use - have to brace the shredder against something else to use. Very difficult to get paper into the shredder - can NOT put in just one or two pieces because the "safety" mechanism won't slide out of the way. It simply crunches up the paper. Have to put at least four sheets in to make it stiff enough to push the safety mechanism out of the way. Works OK if you have lots of paper, but if you have an odd couple sheets to do, you have to fold them to make it stiffer so it will enter the shredder.
Pros: Quiet Operation
Cons: Safety Features, Sheet Capacity
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A Great Shredder

This is a great shredder if you need a compact one -- and one that moves easily on wheels without tipping -- mine rolls on a tightly woven rug with no problem. The auto paper thickness measurement works well and clearly warns if you've loaded in too much. It's reasonably quiet and can also chew up credit cards and CDRs, though I haven't tried that yet. Nice that it comes with applicator bottle of shredder oil. I never knew these things needed to have the cutters oiled to keep them functioning at top capacity -- that's obviously why my very old Fellows eventually died -- but it makes perfect sense given what these machines do.
