The one I had before would turn on automatically when you put paper in then the blue light would go off by itself. This one you have to slide the slider in one direction for on and the other way for off. I wish I'd spent a little more and done a bit more research before buying this one. It'll be fine for a few papers but not great if you have a bunch to shred.
The shredder does what’s it’s meant to do. I do have two issues with it: 1. It can start to overheat a few minutes into operation. The indicator light turns on and you can smell the overheating. I just stop unplug the device and wait to shred the next batch of paper. 2. The machine is very top heavy and there are no handles on it for removing it to empty the contents of the container. The design could be better. Still it’s a shredder. It shreds and its size is great for tucking out of the way.
Works like a gem but it heats too quickly with large loads of paper

The shredder really chews up the paper quickly but you need to be aware of how many sheets you put in at one time. The shredder shows down with 12-15 sheets and really heats up quickly shutting the cutter down. So keep the feed handful down to less than 5 sheets or show at one time. I’ve been able to bypass the overheat shutoff switch by opening and closing the catch basket
