Your earlier model stood up and down and was much thinner versus the large wide and flat build of this model. It makes it harder to fit into tight computer desk space.

Thank you for your feedback on the SMART1500LCDT. I understand your concern with the form factor of the unit and it not being as convenient as you were familiar with. I will note that we do have an option that would be thinner and able to go into those tighter spaces. That unit would be the SMART1500LCD. This is a rack-mount unit, but also can be used in an upright configuration that might work better for your environment. I have included a link to the product as well as our UPS buying guide.
