Good key feel, easy to live with.

With its mechanical switches, this is a very predictable and tactile keyboard. It's "clacky" but not super annoying for anyone else in the next room. (others may disagree, so YMMV)Bluetooth, and backlit, makes it very friendly for use in a wide variety of situations. I've been getting a couple weeks of "normal" use from each battery charge, with the "always on" backlight set to its dimmest. (I'd actually prefer it to go a bit dimmer)Bluetooth range is fine, even for my setup where the receiver is 8' away, and the connection is rock solid. Better than any other keyboard I've ever used. Including the "special function" keys for media playback, etc. The non-configurable parameters, like controlling the sleep/wake delays, are all set very sanely.Wish there was more backlight configurability, maybe controlled by an app. Direct access via dual function keys is nice, but it's easy to hit the "wired input" mode inadvertantly, and if you accidentally switch to one of the "light show" backlight modes you'll definitely know. But after some adjustment that's happening to me less often now.

The Greatest Keyboard

You never knew how much you really needed to update your keyboard until you updated to this one. It is by far one of the nicest keyboards I’ve ever worked with. I love the mechanical structure and the LED lighting and the ability to switch from a cable connection to the two Bluetooth connections Very cool

Pluses and minuses

Pluses: seems very well built, cool light patterns are fun, nice feel of keys. Minor minuses: F13-15 missing, replaced by non-standard keys with dedicated uses - wish I'd have had a choice. Needs a lot more programmability, preferably with an app on my computer. Would be nice if the lighting would shift to show the second function of keys such as the F-keys or the numeric keys when the appropriate key were pressed (fn, num, etc.). As they are, the second function of these keys is all but invisible.Major minus: Keys engage at the slightest touch. This is a big problem. Touch typists who learned on mechanical keyboards expect engagement when the key reaches bottom or the "snap" is felt, not right at the top. I rest my fingers lightly on the keyboard and the keys often take off on their own at this bare touch. Definitely not what I would have wanted in a mechanical keypress.Nice-to-have: All the lighting patterns should have a "negative" or "inverse" mode - so, for example, the sine wave is dark against an all-lit background. Not any kind of a rating changer, but would be fun and seems simple to implement.Bottom line: I'm not sorry I bought it, but the keypress thing is a major bummer.

10-key for me, finally.

The SM3 fills the voids left by my previous keyboard in more ways than one. Working a hybrid schedule between an office and remote locations, switching between MacOS, iOS and the dreaded Windon’ts has become a breeze with the SM3. Bluetooth, dongle, and wired connectivity make the SM3 my new go-to. The clickety-clack is just more icing on the cake. Well done, Satechi.

My only regret is not buying the lighter version. Even with the backlight, in a dark edit room, the keys are a bit too dark
