[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the perfect addition to an E15 Laptop, which has only 1 USB2 and USB3 port, this allows me to seamlessly add the extra USB2, 2 USBC, Additional HDMI output (make sure your model's graphics card supports the additional display port), and the card readers which for some may be a necessary addition. Because it connects with through power, you aren't sacrificing one of your only two build in USB ports.
This is also a great option for those interested in investing in a dock, but is a more budget friendly option with the added benefit of being portable.
In my use case, the onboard USB2 is basically dedicated to my wireless mouse dongle, leaving me with the open USB3 for data transfer and higher speed peripherals. If I need a card reader or additional ports for what I'm working on I simply connect the hub and gain the extra monitor port, the USB2 which is great for any keyboard U may want to connect, and two more USB3 ports. Because it's so lightweight and portable it just comes with me.
Although it does lack some of the nicer features the hub has, the cost to feature ratio for most use cases to me makes it an essential compared to the hub, which is a little overkill and more about the convenience and "because you can" factor. Yes the down side is a couple more seconds connecting cables, but to me the portability and flexibility of this makes up for that.
Like I said, it's something that can always go in the bag, just in case.
