Should have kept 5 yr old heads
on August 23, 2020

Have had razor 10+ years, only replaced heads once before, got these new ones and wished I’d kept the 5 yr old set. These are crap. At this pint looking to buy a new razor, won’t be a Norelco.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi there,
We're sorry to hear that you didn't get the expected results with your Philips Norelco Shaver. For the best result when using your Philips Shaver with a foam or shaving gel, we'd recommend you to take care of the following: Always wash your face with water and soap before you start your shaving routine, after which you can apply your shaving gel or foam. Now you should start shaving by moving your shaver in circular movements over your skin. Doing this ensures that all hair growing in different directions are removed. If you're shaving dry, then we'd recommend you to allow at least 15 minutes for your skin to dry completely before you start shaving after washing it with soap and water.
Let us know if this helps you out, and if not, please feel free to get in touch via social media. We’re available 24/7 on Facebook (Philips) and Twitter (PhilipsCare). Alternatively, you can reach out to us via the contact page on our website. One of our colleagues will then try their best to help you further.
Hope to speak to you soon!
Kind regards, Philips Consumer Care

Has HS-50 blades, not the superior HQ-8 lift-and-cut blades.

The new HS-50 single edge blades do not shave as effectively or as comfortably as the older/usual HQ-8 lift-and-cut blades. (The HQ-8 blade has been discontinued in the less expensive model razors.) The new HS-50 blades can yank on hairs rather than cleanly cut them, and you need to go over an area several times to get a close shave. The good lift-and-cut type blades are still available on the more expensive model Norelco razors. Hmm, I guess we all need to spend more money to get the quality shave from Norelco that we expect and were used to. Ah, American greed!
Pros: was once a great affordable razor!!
Cons: discontinued the lift-and-cut blades for series.!!, must now buy an expensive model for a good shave!!

Poor Performance

I have been using Norelco shavers for 30 years! I bought my Shaver 5100 April 29 2019 and loved the shave! Here it is 4 months later and the blades are dull! I go to your web site to order replacement blades in hopes the new ones will last longer and you are out of stock. While on your site I read alot of reviews and they are not good! Whats going on? I am having second thoughts about buying another Norelco shaver!
Cons: poor blade quality

Shaver squeals mid-way into shaving
on December 22, 2018

I've used this shaver for not quite a year. Found it to perform admirably, but in the past few weeks it suddenly squeals loudly requiring it to be turned off and back on several times. Goes another 10-seconds or so and begins squealing again and again. I rinse the blades in hot running water after each use (as recommended), and run it through the cleaning system once a week (also recommended). I'll try replacement blades, but after being a lifelong Norelco shaver user this is not up to their historical quality.
Pros: good cleaning system
Cons: blades squeal during shaving
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Replacing the shaving heads is unacceptably difficult. It is a good product other than this.

I have Norelco 5200 for more than 2 years and now made huge mistake to decide to replace shaving heads. I bought Norelco SH 50/52 heads and installed them. After that I have shaver that practically not shaving. I reinstalled replacement headers by changing every head location. No big difference. Very disappointed.
