I expected somewhat of a full room sound even without back speakers. Even though I used the "tune" app about 5 times, there was no improvement. I'm not sure the Beam sounds any better than my tv speakers. I do like the ability to play music from sources and my phone.
Pros: Easy To Setup, Easy to use
Cons: Poor Sound Quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This product is of obvious quality and design. The only reason I sent it back was we found the the sound was too uni-directional. We had to be be sitting almost directly in front and at ear level to the speaker to enjoy the sound.
Pros: Expandable, Streams All My Music, and More, Superior Sound, Wireless
Cons: Difficult Setup, For myself, sound is too directional.
