Good Machine

This machine has done very well! I'm using it with 9oz canvas for large curtain panels and it has performed very well. Don't over-tighten the thumb screw holding the needle in! There should be a warning about this in the book, you'll break the needle. Overall a very good machine!

I like this machine for the price and value. I sew as an amatuer on canvas projects for boats. Building canvas covers, shades and window panels for the boat we live on. The machine will sew thru 10 layers, 9 of canvas and 1 of strataglass with ease. If you follow directions and learn a few basics you will like the machine.

Not what I expected

This machine is okay for some basic every day sewing. However, I sew for long periods of time. This machine is not made for that. First, in every Singer machine I have bought, I have to fix the bottom tension. The factory settings just don't work. After long periods of use, the timing will start to go out. I have to stop using it for almost the rest of the day before I can start using it again. It does do pretty great with layers! Thick layers too!

Good Machine For It's Price Range

I have owned Singer machines before and read both good and bad reviews for this machine. From my own experience I's say this machine gives you value for its price range: no more, no less. I had no problem sewing through layers with this machine, but remember this: this machine is for heavy duty HOME use, not heavy duty COMMERCIAL use. Most of the new machines are more "touchy" about using the right needle or setting the tension than the old machines (my old machine was from the 1980s. Luckily, the owner's manual details setting the tension and even has a section on needle and thread sizes for different types of projects. Novice seamstresses will be successful on this machine if they read the owner's manual. Just don't "push" this machine as if it were a COMMERICIAL hesvy duty machine.

Not heavy duty. Tension problems. One big headache.

I had a hard time using to top loading bobbin. The directions were a picture and not clear to me. It took multiple attempts for me to get that right.
Pros: Can Withstand Use
Cons: Difficult To Use
I would recommend this to a friend!

Basic Sewing

I have had the 4411 for about a month. I use it to mend and do minor alterations. I definitely do not enjoy sewing. I have mended several items including a heavy canvas strap and this machine did fine. The motor on my old machine ( over 50 years) went up so there is a bit of a learning curve on this one. I find the instruction book awkward to use because of the language layout. Also the diagram for the threading the upper thread was unclear. The slotted take-up lever in the step 6 was not apparent, nor did the direction suggest that the handwheel needed to be turned to bring this lever up. I also had difficulty with the drop in bobbin which is probably because the bobbin case on my old machine was under the needle plate cover. Finally, I have difficulty threading the needle. Even in the highest position, the eye of the needle is so close to the needle plate cover that I must actually remove the needle to thread it.

Adequate machine

I bought this machine as a second machine to be used at a vacation home. It performs well for the price and is a better machine than many of the lower priced plastic machines. I would not recommend it to anyone who is not already an accomplished sewer and who has the patience to put up with a few issues. the threading is simple and well accessed up to the point where you feed the last two threading points before threading the needle, very awkward to thread at this point. The bobbin does not wind evenly. The presser feet are easy to attach to presser foot shank but attaching the shank to the machine with the provided screw is awkward, the screw head is too small for fingers and the slot for the screwdriver is too wide and the driver continually slips out. The power is good and the stitch tension is good and even. I prefer a manual machine over a computerized one and this model has all of the zigzag stitches that I require.
