Once you download, the app will identify your location. You will see the towers in the surrounding area, so you aim the antenna in the right direction to pick up the TV signals. If you have not already returned the product and this does not help, please give our tech support team a call at 877-825-5572 or chat with us online at https://www.gomohu.com/support.html and they will perform a FREE signal analysis, this will better assist them in pinpointing what the problem may be. Unit arrived quickly and was easy to install on an existing pole which is about 8' off the ground outside. I did not replace the cable to my TV as it is a distance of over 30'. Thus far it has performed up to expectations and the price was better than I expected. Great value. I am over 30 miles from the broadcast towers and it is pull most of these in fine. The signal does get "blocked" by some larger vehicles (school bus or trucks) and some overhead planes (we are in the path of small planes that practice landings and take offs). But for 95% of the time...it is great.

Still cannot pick up a local VHF station 17 miles away. Advertising suggested that adding the amplified antenna would allow us to do so.

Hi Kath! The VHF station you are trying to receive may be a Low-VHF station which would require a very large antenna element. Most antennas are only capable of receiving Hi-VHF. I gave a rating of only three stars because Mohu changed the coaxial cable from the thicker, better quality RG6 to the thinner RG59. This fact is nowhere apparent in the Antennas Direct Mohu advertisement. The Mohu Leaf Plus used to come with RG6 coaxial cable. Antennas Direct was unable, or unwilling, to substitute the previously included RG6 coax cable.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hooked up inside beside the TV and got 6 channels. Moved to the attic of my single story home and am now receiving 85 channels.

Fit right on the old mount form my old satellite. Received 50 channels. All the national local channels are HD quality. Very pleased. Note: used the old satellite cables with the included amp.
