True wireless surround

Bought this unit as I missed my Bose surround sound system which had WAY too many cables but awesome sound!
Tried a number of sound bars, none could replicate that surround sound at a reasonable price point. Bought this on sale for $949
double the price of the JBL Bar 5.1 on sale.
No going back.

Everything changed after buying the new Chromecast

When I first tried this soundbar it was ok, I kind of liked it but nothing special. I tried to watch shows with Dolby Atmos audio but couldn't tell if it was worth spending all that money, and I honestly only did it because of the Bluetooth rechargeable rear speakers (which is the best thing). I used to watch shows on volume 15 because it was still a bit hard to hear conversation. Even though I have a smart tv, it's not compatible with Dolby Atmos.
So, I decided to get the new version of Chromecast with Google Tv and that's when everything changed. The 360 experience is now different, I can hear more details, the sound is powerful. I can listen to the tv on volume 8 and still can hear the voices. Listening to music is also another level, it fills the room, it makes you feel almost like having headphones on.
I still find it pricy for what it does, but still, a great soundbar.
Maybe not the best option when you live in an apartment because the bass is really powerful and there are only 3 levels

Great sound, easy setup. Agree with all the positive comments here. Only negative is that the rear speakers play music a lot on tv shows that partially drown out the voice sounds. So I either leave the speakers docked or turn off the rear speakers when this happens.
Absence of caps not really a problem. Speakers are docked when not in use, and don’t look bad to me without the caps.
Surround works great in my living room, despite not being a square shape ( open on one side).
Expensive, but good value.

Purchased this soundbar 2020 Black Friday sale as I had my eye on a wireless home theatre setup. First off the sound is tremendous and you really feel the bass from the subwoofer when watching shows that output the ideal Dolby effects.
The ability to detach the surround speakers is unlike anything else on the market. The detachable surround speakers provide an outstanding immersive experience and you can also adjust the surround sound level of the speakers independently.
I did and still do experience a minor sound delay when I watch some channels (typically news). Seems for news you have to disable the smart mode for rich sound effects, which kind of defeats the purpose of the bar. Instead I would have expected a dialogue enhancer and hopefully that will follow in future software updates.
Overall this bar does not disappoint and was exactly what I wanted for a home theatre; incredibly rich and vibrant sound combined with wireless (sub + surround sound).
I would recommend this to a friend!

Amazing surround sound!

I was very hesitant to switch from my wired setup with receiver to a soundbar with wireless speakers. But this is amazing I actually have better sound now than I did before.

I was looking for a new surround. Looked at higher end brands but realized most of their sound bars are good but their base kind of sucks. Overall I wanted a nice surround but with amazing base. This does just that. Incredible sound bar with an incredible base. The attachable side speakers are a bonus.
I’m very happy with my purchase.

I’ve owned the jbl 9.1 for about a week now, and it’s been amazing for me. More than enough power to shake an entire level of our house, and I’ve had the rear speakers last for a full day unplugged behind me while gaming or watching Netflix. The set up wasn’t too difficult. Before updating via wifi I had the rear speakers become fuzzy/static-y twice over the first two days. Changed a few settings and updated, it’s run flawlessly since. (probably 5-6 hours a day during the holidays).
Finding Dolby atmos ready films/ music is my next mission to take full advantage of the technology in the sound bar.
