Great system for my new 4K TV and UHD player

Was comparing this to Sonos Arc with a subwoofer. Sonos might sound a bit better. Decided to buy this instead:
- True wireless rear speakers with side and top firing speakers provide a better surround and ATMOS
- Support of DTS and DTS:X (have lots of old contents with DTS 5.1 only); Sonos Arc does not support DTS
- Need all 4 HDMI TV inputs; JBL 9.1 has HDMI in and pass-through (Sonos Arc has no HDMI input for pass through; would lose 1 HDMI input)

very good sound

It took a few attempts to upgrade the firmware, it kept saying error after it tried to update but eventually it worked. Once it worked and I did the sound calibration which sends out beeps/blurps to the rear speakers/side speakers the audio was crystal clear. We had an LG sound bar and base at 700$ but the audio wasn't the greatest. This sub woofer really pumps out the base with fidelity treble coming from the center bar. For the price, it beats out having to buy an amp and lug in thick cables. This system integrates really well with LG TVs, in fact even better then LG sound bars. We use eARC on the TV out to the sound bar. We run our dvd player to the TV and then from TV to sound bar. You can go directly to the sound bar but then you have to press a button on the controller to switch inputs. Bluetooth works well with Google chromecast but forget about getting chromecast to work over wifi. Chromecast will setup the soundbar wifi and do a software update but it stops at that. My sound bar shows up in chromecast as a bluetooth speaker icon. Most sound bars that use chromecast setup act the same way... it's a Google integration thing. I have a Samsung android phone.

RR speaker never connects

got it today, 28 nov 20, after the connection eARC/ARC experimentation, time to sit and enjoy F1 Bahrain Grand Prix. Folks, I was not watching the race, I am in it! The Left Rear speaker conveys amazing surround, Atmos fires everywhere. Amazing for my first ever lifetime surround. Oh wait, the Rear Right kept blinking slowly white, meaning 'disconnected' from the bar. Never saw it connected. Found a few disconnect forums, nothing to suggest a worse situation than Samsung. I avoided the Samsung precisely due to such connection issues... But not, JBL 9.1 RR never connects. 1000$ with Extended BB warranty? no thank you...RR never connects = automatic 0 stars if I could...
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

JBL 820 9.1 Wireless is just WOW!

I did a lot of research prior to purchasing a sound bar. I just keep coming back to this one even with the limited amount of adjustments. Is it perfect...no I would love to have a equalizer to go with it to tweak it a little bit. But what it does have is fantastic. Movies sound great, TV sounds great, ATMOS is there and great added with wireless and it is near perfect. If you are purchasing this for Movies and Sports dam great, remember to upgrade the downloads when unpacking makes a big difference. This is not a replacement for a full system and music is alright on this but if you want for music much better options this is for Movies and watching sports simple as that!

Week 2 started freezing

Basically, great sound until it started freezing/locking on week 2. Sound disappears, you have the video, JBL volume indicators and the word LOAD. you can turn it off assuming that one restarts it, but it remains unresponsive pitch black after the power off. only getting up, reaching in the tight space as I just had it wall mounted, unplugging and replugging power does it. Now, this issue is mentioned repeatedly in over 68 avsforum pages. Months ago people thought that a magical firmware fixes it. ironically i had performed a reset when i contacted support to assist with setup, and the reset was followed by an update, And freezing started...Yes, it is going back to Best Buy... all these months and JBl never found a solution, i do not have time to wait

I bought a hdmi 2.1 cable not a cheap and since then its flawless,very happy with my purchase.
BTW I reached out to jbl and they will be sending me the 4 end covers and replacement 2.1 hdmi cable once they received inventory for Canada/usa

Value for the money

After losing one of my high-end systems in a flood, I chose to pursue a wireless sound bar as a replacement. After months of research (with limited opportunity to test due to Covid) I bought this unit unseen and unheard based on reviews and being JBL.
It is installed in a large great room with a vaulted ceiling.
It is everything I expected. Full, clean sound. Adequate sound pressure. Sub can shake the floor a little. It's not as high quality as the traditional towers, centre and rear system, but the sleek styling and clean lines compliment the room layout.
The detachable speakers are an unexpected feature in that they can go anywhere (that they have range). Like the kitchen or the garage to boost the sound. And the magnets will hold them firmly on a metal surface.
I am streaming music off my phone, which requires several adapters to do on the home theatre.
For a fraction of the price point, I have just what I needed. Very satisfied.
I would recommend this to a friend!

True wireless surround

Bought this unit as I missed my Bose surround sound system which had WAY too many cables but awesome sound!
Tried a number of sound bars, none could replicate that surround sound at a reasonable price point. Bought this on sale for $949
double the price of the JBL Bar 5.1 on sale.
No going back.
