I have an infant, a toddler, a dog, and a husband, so our rugs are routinely covered in spills, mud, dog fur, and various bodily fluids. Gross, I know. I got this carpet cleaner and it was incredibly easy to use and the rugs looked and smelled so much better; even the play room rug! The brush does an amazing job of pulling dog fur out of the rugs. I didn't think there would be much left given that I ran the regular vacuum first, but I could probably knit a brand new dog out of what this machine picked up. It's a little bit gross cleaning off the brush and dumping the filthy rinse water, but in a satisfying kind of way, because at least you know it's no longer in your rugs!

The agitator belt breaks frequently and is not covered under warranty. I have had great luck with my Hoover Max Extract which lasted over 7 years. The Hoover SmartWash has been a disappointment not even lasting one month.

Very easy to use and does a great job. One small draw back are the little cogs or spacers in the nozzle, they gather carpet fibers and are tedious to remove during clean up.

On my second use - no matter the dry or wash direction the water won't stop coming out the bottom nozzle even when not in use or turned on - such a bad design - it can still be used but for the dry mode I have to take out the clean water tank!!! So many other facing this issue, obviously its a deign issue

Ever since I purchased this the power button has not worked properly, but I could live with that. I just unplugged it from the wall instead of using the button. But a year later and maybe 4 uses later, the brushes won't spin.

This machine was the 3rd carpet cleaner we've owned and the first to actually deliver on its promise. Ingenious, well thought-out and engineered, it's clearly the evolutionary result of years listening to customers' suggestions and frustrations. And it does something remarkable. It really, REALLY CLEANS carpets. Easily and thoroughly. Cleaning our beige living room carpeting with a machine was always an exercise in disappointment. I'd read some good reviews on the web about this unit, so I sent for it. Got it yesterday and tried it today. In the 11 years that I've been cleaning, washing and shampooing our carpeting, my wife and I have never seen anything like the way this machine did the job. It's amazing to be reminded of the carpets original color. Ha, ha. We can't recommend it enough.
