I got this carpet cleaner a few weeks ago. I did my carpets in my condo. I didn't think they were that dirty. Then I use it by my brother's place. some of the area were not done for over ten years. Very dusty clean them very good. Carpets look great!!

The new features like being able to open and remove the brushes for cleaning / rinsing is nice. However the wet/dry feature doesn't work well. I purchased this due to the great reviews regarding the dry feature. The drying doesn't work that well and the carpet is still fairly wet. I believe my shopvac has more suction. It would be nice to have some control on areas that require more shampoo. You'll have to pre treat.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi mkl4243, Thank you for reviewing the Hoover SmartWash Automatic Carpet Cleaner. Here's a helpful tip: for full suction, it's important that the Dirty Water Tank is properly secured before cleaning. When your cleaning is complete and you want to reduce the dry time, press the Dry Only button. The Dry Only mode will extract remaining water from your carpet. I bought this on Tuesday (5 days ago) after seeing an ad on TV, then cking the website and "live chat" ing with a Hoover rep. It's really amazing. It was easy to put together - I'm SO grateful for a paper manual with pictures AND words. It was just as easy to take apart after to clean and reassemble. And it worked beautifully. I have a small dog with dirty feet sometimes on an off white carpet. As well he threw up on Tuesday a bit and there is NO sign of anything. I spot cleaned a few other sections of the carpet in different rooms where things had been spilled (green tea for one) and cleaned out pretty well before this cleaner but not suctioned up, just a product and paper towel. So now I know those areas are really clean. The water was dirty! I couldn't be happier. A great product and worth every penny - I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a carpet cleaner. And thanks too to the agent I "chatted" with - her advice and endorsement was spot on. This is a terrific product!!

The Hoover Professional Series SmartWash is my third carpet cleaner. Without a doubt it is also by far the best. 1) No 'attached assessories' and added wieght to lug around while cleaning the carpet like other uprights. Yet this shampooer is full featured with quality built assessories, which also comes in a very nice bag. 2) Cleaning power is comparable to my first large scale canister shampooer but without the difficulty of manuvering the huge tubs and motor.... You were the scubber... which also made for a good workout. 3) Much much better than my second shampooer, a poorly designed high price Brand 'B', which took an hour for cleanup afterwards, and still never worked as good as this Hoover Professional Series. Cleanup is exceptionally easy and complete on the Hoover with the plastic parts being heavy duty, well made and very well designed. Only Con that I found that is typical with all uprights is that need to pretreat and hand scub the edges and corners... (Not a fault of the Hoover upright) HD has the perfect long handle rotatable brush for edge cleaning. This is a very well made and well designed machine... I like it!

I've used this carpet cleaner twice now and I just love it. It gets my carpets cleaner than any other product I've ever owned. It's very easy to use and it's best feature is how easy it is to take apart and clean. I absolutely love it.
