Great heater for mild climates

I bought this in 2023 mainly for use as a heater, though I've appreciated having the AC in summer also. For a mild climate (typical lows in the low 40s to high 30s, occasionally down to 30F), this is a fantastic machine, and a very cost-effective way to get extremely high-efficiency heating. It's advertised for 550sq. ft. room/apartment, but I use it to heat a 1500sq.ft. house quite effectively, with the help of a couple auxiliary fans to move the heat around. And I only run it during off-peak electricity demand times. I haven't tried out the app, which appears to be terrible, like many of its kind. But the ability to switch on or off automatically after a set period, which is available via the front panel, does most of what I need. Don't expect it to heat much below about 40F, and you'll be very happy. For colder climates, there are much better types of heat pump available. But even in a colder climate, this would be great for a good chunk of fall and spring heating, as long as you have a backup for the coldest periods. Installing the window panel took me a few tries and a bit of work with hacksaw and drill, but I guess that's par for the course--there are just too many shapes and sizes of window. I recommend some softer, spongier foam strips for sealing gaps than that which is supplied with the unit. I did have to elevate the unit on a platform, since the available window was too high for the inlet/outlet accordion tube to reach. The build-in condensate pump is very nice. Once everything is set up, I never have to worry about excess moisture--it just goes up a hose and out the window. This unit plus a heat-pump hot water heater made it possible to get toxic methane, contaminants, and combustion fumes out of my house and turn off the gas line. It's not super quiet, but fine--doesn't interfere with my sleep, and I'm fairly sound-sensitive. And as big plastic boxes go, it's not too ugly. Overall, I'm delighted with it and wish more people knew about these.

Apparently designed to fail.

Stopped cooling juuuust outside of warranty.
Non-servicable based on the lack of any support documentation. Now a hulking pile of electronic waste that I have to deal with.

SO disappointed

was so excited to get this unit for the florida summer heat. it worked well for about 9 months, did a great job dehumidifying i got buckets of water from the thing, and it cooled fantastic...now its just barely blowing cold air, its stopped de humidifying, ive searched the net, youtube, this site for any tips on how to fix it....there's none, so disappointing.. now i see they had a recall on a window unit they make... this unit should be recalled and replaced as well...basically should have bought a proven old school technology instead of this mould bucket that has no way to fix repair or clean.....total waste of money

Man, I was really really hopeful when I found this unit. Seemed like it was exactly what I needed, heat/AC in one unit. AC worked great all summer, temps got over 100 several times. The major problem is the heating ability, the majority of the country gets below 45 degrees in the winter. The heater simply won't work when it is below that which renders it completely useless making me use a separate space heater in the small building. This is a side the fact that my unit wouldn't pump the water out and was leaking making me go through a replacement process. I will be searching for another option. Pretty disappointing.

Unit Operating Temperature Range: Mode Temperature Range Cool 16°C ~ 35°C (60°F ~ 95°F) Dry 13°C ~ 35°C (55°F ~ 95°F) Heat Pump (for heat model) 5°C ~ 30°C (41°F ~ 86°F) The information above is extremely important. This unit works great if the outdoor temperature is within the operating temperature range. Once the temperature gets to 45°F the heater will struggle to blow hot air, and after the temperature gets to 41°F the heat pump will not start at all. The unit was designed to function this way. This unit also struggles to blow cold air once the temperature gets above 88°F, but the unit will continue to operate regardless of how hot it gets outside. Do not purchase this unit if you plan to use it in temperatures beyond the operating temperature range, because it simply cannot do it. In my experience, it seems to be more sensitive to the temperature inside the hose than the temperature inside the room. If I heat up the room with a separate heater the heat pump still will not engage if the outside temperature is out of operating range.

The best portable AC I've owned.

This is our third Midea Air conditioner ( we have two of the U shaped in the bedrooms). We purchased this about two weeks ago when it was well over 90 degrees. It has cooled our entire Down stairs of about 1200 square feet down to 65-70 degrees even on the hottest days. The dual chamber exhaust makes a huge difference as there isn't heat that escapes on its way being vented out. We plan on purchasing another one for the full summer for next year to put on the other side of the house ( we like it freezing ). It's super quiet and has far exceeded my Expectations. If anyone is on the fence please don't hesitate to purchase it for your cooling needs.

Failed on 2nd use

The Midea DUO 14K BTU portable A/C did not manage to work for more than about 5 hours. We used it the first day for about 4+ hours or so. It worked reasonably well to cool the room. The 2nd day I turned it on and in ran for about 40 min and then just turned off. No error code. No display. The unit just completely died. Midea customer service was awful to work with. As it was opened and used, the Midea authorized retailer I purchased it from did not want to take the unit back. I wasted so much time in endless back and forth with Midea trying to get them to just send a simple email that I could show the retailer. Midea's answer was to share the chat transcript. Retailer did not even want to look at the chat transcript. I can't blame them for that. Midea has severe quality control issues.
