A very useful machine

I've had my SewMate for 5 years and I'm happy with it. I haven't had any problems with winding a bobbin nor tension problems that I have read others have had. I have had broken needles and C4 codes but that is usually because I am trying to sew fabric that is too thick or I'm pushing the fabric and cause the needle to be misaligned. I have found that this machine does not like to sew through thick fabrics but it does a great job on medium weight fabric. I only wish I could get a straight stitch needle plate so that sewing lightweight fabric were easier. I have had problems with fabric being pulled down into the needle plate but this a common problem on EVERY machine that doesn't have a straight stitch needle plate. I have found that placing some tear-away stabilizer underneath the fabric prevents the fabric from being pulled down. I would recommend this machine to anyone who is new to sewing as the preprogrammed stitches are extremely helpful. I would also recommend this machine to anyone else who wants a reliable sewing machine.

This is not my old Singer.....and that's not good

Received this as a Christmas gift as a replacement for my old Singer Athena 2000 Electronic that I have had for over 40 years. The Sew Mate is at best a meager replacement, the fact that you just push the button to change the stitches is impressive, but was amazed at how flimsy the plastic of the outer cabinet seems compared to my old machine. The buttonhole attachment is made out of cheap plastic compared to my attachment for the Athena. Have yet to get the needle threader to work and the instructions in the booklet do not match the video in the enclosed DVD. In less than 2 weeks I have already had to take the bobbin compartment apart to clean out lint, install at leas three new needles and have broken way to much thread using this machine. The machine constantly breaks threads, skips stitches, and thread bunches on the bottom of fabric no matter how many needles are changed and no matter how much you pull back the threads when you start to stitch. It also knocks at least half of the time when sewing. The bobbin also breaks thread and I constantly have to open machine and re-install bobbin again and again. I have been sewing for over 40 years and have used mostly Singer machines and never had a machine that had so many problems. I'm very shocked that Singer would have such a product. I'm hoping I can find a sewing machine repair man who can fix the old Athena.....as even with her old problems she still stitches a straight line without any bunching or skipping of stitches!

this sewing machine does great for just about anything you need to get done, but when it comes to any form of leather, do not attempt using this machine. she gets the job done and is reliable on any other fabric.

I love my machine

I chose Singer because I grew up with Singer. My grandmother was a big avid seamstress. She always bought Singer. She always held on to her grandmother's original iron pedal powered machine with the table. Singer has just been one of the family for centuries now. I recently got the fever myself and after much debate I of course chose a Singer. It was tricky at first but only because I didnt know what I was doing. But the more I played with it the more I learned an the better I got. Now its like 2nd nature. Its very user friendly. I plan on upgrading to a fancier model next year, but I will hold on to this one. I plan on giving it to my daughter and keeping the Singer tradition going. I couldn't be happier. The accessories are very affordable and the price of the machine is very competitive and affordable. The most bang for your buck.

Problem with bobbin thread

I got my machine for Christmas. I sewed with it for maybe 10 minutes. The needle went as far left as it could and would not reset. The needle kept hitting the plate.Now I have to wait for a shipping label to send it back. And wait for another machine. I think the next machine will be a Brother and it will come for a dealer.

I received this machine after my other one broke. My best friend bought it for me as a gift and I love it so much. It easy to work with and all the stitches are wonderful. It's a easy machine for a beginner to advanced. Would recommend it to anyone.
