Sorry to report that I have not had a positive experience with this machine. I have struggled to use it for a few years now. I have an older Euro pro that works without fail. I thought that singer was a reputable name and would be a light machine to use at the sewing guild. I have trouble with the stitch &bobbin every time I use it. It has cost me many wasted hours, thread & fabric. Just now reading the reviews I see I am not alone.
I bought this sewing machine to make masks for people in need during COVID-19. It is very easy to use. The only issue I had with it was some threads kept jamming. I feel cotton thread works best, or cotton wrapped polyester.
I purchased this sewing machine to make masks for the healthcare workers that I work with in Colorado during the Covid-19 crisis. I should have headed the reviews written previously. This machine is a piece of junk. From the moment I took it out of the box I was disappointed. The plastic casing is some of the cheapest and thinnest plastic I have ever seen. It immediately started jamming the bobbin thread and giving the C4 error. Had a friend who is a seamstress take it to her house and try to work with it and she agreed that it wasn't worth a fourth of what I paid for it. Then the next problem, if you tried to sew more than two light pieces of fabric together it wouldn't do it. Motor isn't powerful enough to go through more than two layers of light weight fabric. When I tried to sew the elastic to the masks that was a disaster. Went through a whole pack of needles due to the machine breaking the needles. It continued to jam and not be able to go through the fabric. My seamstress friend verified that the motor wasn't capable to doing this either. Not sure what this machine is good for. Please read my review and others before spending money buying this machine and trying to work with it. It doesn't work.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Not being a person to sew this machine is the perfect answer. The quick start instructions are easy. You can get the manual on line no cost. All you need to do is select the stitch you need and the machine does the rest. It has a needle threader which is great. It has 3 different foot peddles, atomatic bobbin threader, and dust cover. This is a joy to use.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is the first sewing machine I have purchased for myself. I have sewed off and on since I was young using my mother's machines, but this is the first I am venturing out on my own. This machine is very easy to use and the instructional dvd was a tremendous help! I saw some other reviews discussing problems with the bobbin thread balling up underneath the material when sewing, but there were instructions on how to correct this problem in both the dvd as well as several places in the manual and paperwork that accompanied the machine. I have not had any problems using this machine to make several quilts already, and am looking forward to future projects and trying new things!
I bought this machine to make masks as well as some future projects that my husband has envisioned. I had some issues when I first got it. I was expecting to have purchased a brand new machine, bot a refurbished one. When I got it, the spindle to wind the bobbins would not turn. Upon closer inspection, there was thread tangled inside the machine around the spindle preventing it from working. I could see that the casing on the machine was not on straight, someone had opened it and not put it back together properly. Once I removed the excess tangled thread from inside the machine, everything worked fine and I have had no further problems.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Singer 5400 is perfect for someone new to sewing and wants something easy to set up and start using. It only took me a few minutes using the quick start guide provided, along with a very instructive video on the Singer YouTube channel and I was ready to go. The machine has plenty of stitches for every kind of project. Essential stitches for mending, stretch stitches for fabric that needs to be flexible, decorative stitches, and it even has 4 one step buttonhole functions that are fully automatic. The LED on the front of the machine is easy to read and change depending on what stitch you need as well as the width of the stitch. There’s only a few buttons to changes stitches so you’re not spending a lot of time figuring out the use of the machine. Along with a quick start guide, the machine itself has an easy to follow guide right on the machine to show you how to thread your machine. The light shining onto the sewing area is bright, and allows for easy viewing of your fabric and stitches. There’s a small storage compartment on the machine comes off easily and it’s part of the machine keeping everything together in one place. The Singer is not heavy and easily movable whether you need to keep it in your sewing room or move it out to the kitchen table. Again, I think this is a great machine for a new sewer or perfect for someone that does the occasional mending of clothing or wants to tackle small homemade projects.
I would recommend this to a friend!

At first I liked the machine but after its first couple uses it started jamming a bunch. I have changed my needle and it is the bobbin that came with the machine. I had my grandfather look at it because he always fixes my grandmother's machine. Well he couldn't even fix it and he's been able to fix my grandmother's machines for 50 years now. I would not recommend this machine. I am very unhappy with this machine. I liked the other singer machines I have had and used in the past but this one doesn't run like the other machines.
