If there is a level below beginner, that is me. I have never used a sewing machine before, but I wanted to learn how to sew. So my husband bought the 5400 for my birthday. Using the instruction booklet and the dvd that is included I have made several fleece blankets and a few pillow cases. The machine works wonderfully and I have not had any problems. I have even tried several of the different stitches, so much fun. My next project will be a window scarf...looking forward to it. Great machine at a great value.

ERROR Code C4 (jamming bobbing) occurs with frequency on this machine. I replace one machine and the second one does the exact same thing. Both time following the instructions carefully to "clear" the problem. Error continues. Thoughts, poor quality material and assembly of parts.

The very first time I used this machine (sewed for approx. 30 mins) the belt came off and I had to go to a service center to get it repaired so I could finish a project. I had a deadline to meet. had to pay $32 to get the belt put back on.

My daughter's sewing machine broke, but since we are in the middle of a pandemic, I couldn't find a new one in any of the brick and mortar stores, so I went to singer.com. I didn't like using my daughter's last machine (not a Singer), but I love using this one. It is so quiet and easy to use. Even though I bought it for my daughter, I've used it much more than she has. I've lost count how many masks I've made. I'm going to tackle a baby blanket next, something I, being a novice, would not have contemplated before getting this machine.
