I love my machine but the auto threader is a nightmare. Last time I spent over 2 hours trying to get it to work. I was so frustrated that I just put it away in the back closet and left my projects unfinished. I am very unhappy since the threader is one of the reasons I purchased it. I would not recommend this to others

I have had this machine for 3 months now and use it almost EVERY DAY. The needle threader is amazing... I bought it despite all the bad reveiws and i am so glad i did... EVEN IF YOU ARE experianced in using sewing machines, save your self a headache and READ the manule before you use it.... I have made Bags, and clothes and curtains, and bedspreads, made heavy fleece liners for my pet cages.... this machine is TOTALY worth it!!!

I am a very first time user of any sewing machine and was completely surprised in how easy and comfortable it is to use this sewing machine. love that it was an easy set up and easy to find a place to store. I use the machine everyday and fell in complete love with it.

I have been sewing for years. I recently got back into it pretty heavily. I decided it was time to get a new machine and I'd heard great things about the Singer products. My last machine was a Brother. I see now why Singer has such a good reputation. I LOVE this machine! It's easy to use and sews beautifully. It's also a great price for the features you get. The only thing I wish I could change is that it's green. My favorite color is purple LOL.

So far I love my machine. It's not fancy but I don't need fancy. It's practical and easy to use and that is exactly what I need as I relearn how to sew.

As a 62yo man, just learning to sew (mainly for repairs, etc.), I bought this as my first machine. Was influenced by the brand name (Singer's been the only name in sewing in my family as far back as I recall), as well as the features. I believe 60 stitches will be MORE than adequate for anything I'm likely to wade into. Although some reviews I've read have expressed concern over the plastic parts on top, I don't believe that will be a problem for anyone who treats this machine with even a little bit of care. The bobbin winder w/clutch: nice to have, and saves me from having to purchase a separate winder - good show. Needle threader: essential tool, especially for an old critter like myself, with failing eyesight. Choice of buttonholes: GREAT! Looks like I might be able to make new clothes and not just repair the old ones! Without the buttonholer I don't think I'd ever attempt it. Stitch guide: Good idea for beginners, like me, who don't have a clue how to use the different stitches. Although one of the first things I did was to buy a small presser foot kit with nine additional feet and a twin (double) needle, the feet included with this machine will get you started, and it's really nice to be able to drop a foot and snap another in place without reaching for a screwdriver. Good idea, Singer! Although I can see myself getting another, more complicated machine down the road, over all, I'm pleased with my 5400 and can see myself using it for years.
