When my 15 year old machine started giving problems, I reviewed Singers online to choose a replacement. I haven't used all the features yet, but I've used several different weights of fabric and it's handled them all equally. Easy to use and seems like it will outlast me!
Used the 4452 to make a canvas cover for the boat. It worked great and with the heavy duty needle, it sewed through the heavy material with ease. I really liked it.
I have had NO problems with this machine. I bought it to do heavy multiple layer fabrics including dog collars (fabric and web with ribbon or fabric). These can get pretty thick and so far it has not had any problems with the multiple layers. I am happy with this machine.
The last machine I bought was a Singer Gold'n'Touch in 1967. I believe the 4452 Heavy Duty will be just as reliable. It was very easy to adjust to the differences of the new machine and I have already made several dresses for my granddaughters. Love the 4452!
Purchased machine a week ago. All I want to do is sew. Amazingly fast! I am totally in love with this machine. Very smooth running, easy navigation between stitches, and with different types of fabric. Well worth the money!
I use this for everything - simple projects like play dresses for my daughter and more complex projects such as period costumes and everyday clothing. Very sturdy, love the accessories, lots of options but easy enough for a novice to use. (Watch the speed though...this machine can stitch VERY fast but if you play with the foot pedal you can easily learn to adjust speed accordingly.) Very happy with this purchase!
So far so good with this machine. Sews fine and is easy to use. Pretty good selection of stitches. The one feature that is not great at all is the light. Even with my overhead ceiling light on I feel like I am sewing in a dimly lit cave. I will have to buy a gooseneck lamp and perch it nearby.
