Made one item before it "locked up" drove it100 miles to repair shop. He took it apartand oiled it up well while I watched". Took it home (100 miles back), worked great while I almost finished a second item, locked up again. Drove it to repair again, new part required ( you mean 300 more miles!), traded it in on an old Kenmore on the shelf. Been happily sewing ever since!

LOVE my Singer Heavy Duty 4452 Sewing Machine

My very first sewing machine was a Singer which I purchased back in the mid '70's. I thought I was due for an update. I decided to stay with Singer since I was so pleased with their product. I went with one of their heavy duty models (the 4452). Back when I purchased my first machine they didn't even offer a 'free arm'. Plus, I do a lot of work with denim. This machine satisfies all of my needs.

I was hoping this machine would sew over leather. It could not handle the thickness. For cotton fabric you will enjoy the machine.

From the very start, the Singer Heavy Duty simply would NOT employ & engage the button-holer for me, regardless of fabric attempted, or for my class Instructor, despite over a dozen attempts simulated the exact same as the Husqvarna machines. It had difficulty sewing through layers of fabric. The sewing shop allowed me a full purchase price trade-up to acquire a Husqvarna model. So very glad I did!!! No issues or problems like in this Singer HD model.

I originally purchased this machine to repair my work pants (I work construction so this was more cost effective than buying new pants all the time). I wanted something capable of regularly sewing through multiple layers of 12oz canvas. The machine rarely struggles and I have had zero issues for the three years I have owned it. Compared to the average user, I don't sew very often (about once a month) but this machine has a good variety of stitches and has yet to let me down.

Bought this machine as my other machine was too light for a specific project. What a pleasant surprise! Very easy to use and gets the job done. Use the walking foot all the time

I wouldn't buy this machine

I just bought this machine with the intention of using it for school. I have an antique I've used for years but the course required me to update. I did my research and settle on this machine and I soon realized I was wrong. When I got home I read the manual throughly like I would do with any new machine and when I finally started to sew there was a knocking sound in the main housing. I haven't had it out of the box longer than a few hours and there was something wrong with the machine. After I contacted them all i was told was to rethread, try a new needle, or make sure to only use the bobbin meant for the machine. All of which I tried before contacting them - I was than told that if that didn't work to go out and service it. Now, this machine is less than a week out of box and used six times in fear of making it worse - I shouldn't have to service a brand new machine that I've had for less than a week. I'm returning it to the store in the morning - it was suppose to be heavy duty but it proves otherwise. It was a waste of money and I'm disappointed with how the customer care team handled my issue.
