I have been sewing basics for a approximately two years. I am part of a Christian Ministry that donates items to communities needs and this machine has made sewing much easier. It sews straight lines pretty much by itself.
This machine is as advertised and easily sews over many layers of fabric. A fantastic price for a Singer, known for quality machines. I wanted something basic, as I enjoy hand embroidery and didn't want too many stitches. It has more than enough for my needs.

One of the best machines I've owned since my old Treadle Singer.(Which I still have, by the way.).
This is my second singer heavy duty machine. Can't even remember what year I bought my first heavy duty machine from Singer. Living in the country I am constantly repairing jeans ,camo and other heavy duty clothing for my family. Singer machines have never let me down. Wish I could find a Singer to put in my grandmothers Singer treadle cabinet .
I'm very happy with how this machine performs. I've been using it to sew heavy duty outdoor fabric and it's moves through the thick layers easily. My previous machine always jammed up and I haven't had this problem at all. I didn't realize the difference between a cheap machine and a quality machine until I started using this one. Highly recommend!
I have a Singer 401a sewing machine that I purchased new in 1957, it still works, but has slowed down a lot lately, so I purchased this new Singer, AND I LOVE IT. I hope it lasts as long, although I don't think I will last that long. I have been sewing masks for my neighbors with the 401a, and it just could not do the job, but this new machine easily goes over the pleats and no skipping or stopping and starting. I am very happy with this new machine.
