I bought this humidifier as a replacement for a previous Vornado humidifier of the same design. The motor on the old one gave out, and I decided to purchase the same model as a replacement because I've been so impressed with the thoughtful design and ease of maintenance of this model. I've owned a whole procession of unsatisfactory humidifiers of different designs, so I appreciate the fact that this model is easy to clean and the water tanks are easy to slip into position: they essentially seat themselves. It's easy to check the condition of the filters to see when they need to be changed. The unit makes almost no noise when set at low fan speed.

I have a large house into which the original HVAC contractor installed the SMALLEST Aprilaire unit made (about 1/3 of the required capacity). In order to make up the required 30 gallon per day estimated need, I purchased 3 of these units and they have been running full blast since. The water containers are easy to fill. They may be heavy for some when full, but there is no requirement to fill them all the way if that is a problem.
The unit takes but a few minutes to assemble. I'd like to comment on other comments that I have read about this unit. The twin containers do not drain evenly. This, of course, is due to the very slight differences in the air pressure (vacuum) resulting when the tanks are inverted. Patience is all that is needed...if one drains completely, the other will drain. This is NOT a defect and there is no need to complain about it or try to fix it (as I've seen suggestions for). The design is elegantly simple, reliable and has but one moving part (the fan).

Our main reason for purchasing the Vornado - Evap40 is that it is made in the USA. The humidifier works as stated. We are able to humidify our home and use a hygrometer to adjust the humidifier settings as need. It is easy to clean.

I bought the Evap40 one month ago because I had dry eye. Within an half hour my eyes started to feel better, and my dry eye was gone within 24 hours. My air is noticeably different. I love this humidifier so much. It is easy to put together and fill up. When not filled, it is lightweight so I can move it from room to room, and even travel with it. I put a tray underneath to catch any drips, and to slide it around when full. I don't know how I lived so long without one. I suggest everyone get a Vornado Evap40 because it works great. My life is better because of this humidifier. Oh and I love that it is made in USA.

I really like this model. When on Medium its actually very very quiet. I haven't needed to put it on high so Im not sure how it would sound. But I have a big family room with a very tall ceiling and turning it on Medium it can pump some major moisture in the air pretty fast and putting the other knob in the middle it can detect when to turn off and on automatically so I don't have to worry about it at all till the water jugs need to be filled up and that is super easy too. Very happy with this purchase.

Bought this Evap 40 3 months ago using it in an apartment 1100 sq.feet approx. with baseboard heaters and water hardness is 15 grains.
Using it on Medium Fan and humidistat set so that it runs all the time. I have an hygrometer that reads between 40 -45%. Water consumption is approx. 8 litres ( 2 Gals ) per day. My wife and I can definately breathe much better.

I've been through several humidifiers over the past few years. Each of them were too flawed (loud, uncleanable, chalk dust, ineffective) to keep. I think this is the one. First the two flaws: the water isn't easy to fill, and (while operating) it gurgles. The gurgle isn't the worst. High fan masks it fairly well. In a month it did wake me once (light sleeper). Here's why I'm keeping it: It's such a breeze to clean. It does take a few days to get the humidity up by much, but it'll keep it there. This does not go through the wicks as quickly as another Vornado humidifier I had. After a month, I'm still using the original wicks. Before, they needed replacing more often than the every two weeks I replaced (for the cost of a drug store humidifier every month). It's simple to operate. I have owned Vornado heaters, fans, air filters, humidifiers for about 15 years and have been happy with everything but the humidifiers. This ugly duckling is far better than anything else they have.
