Everything we need AND everything we want.

Two years ago we moved into a timber frame house with a 14ft high great-room ceiling. For the next two winters we used our old humidifiers which really struggled to take care of the great-room, dining room ad kitchen - all in an open floor plan. So I began the search for a better humidifier last Spring. Finally this fall I found the Vornado and since I was out of time to order something, I went ahead and bought one thinking if I liked it I would buy a second. It was a great decision! This humidifier is so quiet that we run it on high all the time and it services a 20x30 great-room, 20x14 dining room, 20x15 kitchen, 20x18 bedroom and 15x18 office. In two days it raised the humidity from 52% to 62%. Great product (so good I don't think I need to get a second!)

gradually increasing fan noise

We have had our EVAP40 for three years. We have been very satisfied during previous winters where it keeps the humidity at the right levels despite forced air heat and a wood stove. This year though, the fan has gotten louder and louder. (Nearly shop-vac volume.) Even at low speed it is pretty noisy. I suspect a bearing failure. I've looked on-line for a replacement motor, but they don't seem to be available. I've recommended to friends before, but not anymore.

Cons: Loud

I like the new tanks, I'm not sure about the new 1" thick pads, as I haven't had them long enough. The top is a little unstable and comes lose easly, other than that I like it so far.
Pros: Adjustable, Compact, Good Power Output, Lightweight, Quiet, Stable Base
Cons: Unstable

My first choice humidifier is a built-in system connected to plumbing lines. But when I can't have that, my favorite humidifier is the Vornado Evaporative humidifier. It's important that I can easily throw out the old wicks and put in fresh new ones. And it's easy to clean/wipe down the plastic tray. Recently my nose was clogged at night and I had to breathe through my mouth . The next day I opened the humidifier and saw the wicks were brownish yellow. I threw them out and put in new ones and breathed fine the next night. How nice to have that solution. One humidifier is enough for my 1200 sq ft apartment. I've had bad luck with ultrasonic humidifiers. They don't seem to put as much moisture in the air. My skin notices the difference. But I have NOT tried a Vornado Ultrasonic humidifier.

Not as it should be

Having owned the predecessor to this unit for over 10 years with no problems in it's functioning, I am very disappointed in this newer version. the 1st one I bought didn't have a working humidistat so was given another unit under the warranty. Tje 2nd unit is basically the same - humidistat worked twice in a few weeks. Mostly I have to work it manually which is difficult, can't be done when sleeping. So either the room is too dry or too wet. What a big disappointment in what used to be such a wonderful product.
Pros: Durable, See through water tanks, Stable Base
Cons: 2nd unit that humidistat doesn't function naking
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This product is used to humidify my 1200-sq ft apartment. It more than adequately handles this chore. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a carefree humidifier.

Replacement filters not available.

My Evap 40 Vortex Humidifer seems to run fine & adds humidity to my rooms. BUT I can't find where or how to buy the replacement filters. Very annoying. I'm not interested in sharing my email address with your company to send me advertisements. But I don't know how else to order this filter. I purchased this machine at a local retail store.
Pros: Adjustable Settings
Cons: Can't Purchase Filters, Hard To Clean

If you are looking locally, check with Bed, Bath and Beyond store and Ace Hardware stores for the replacement filter wicks. All Vornado Evaporative Humidifiers use the same filter wicks so if they are Vornado, they are the correct ones.

My wife started having some breathing issues as the season changed and we started using much more heat. I put one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The problems disappeared. The product is extremely quiet and very easy to load. The large tank capacity make refilling a once (at most) a day task.
