Best value for the buck!!!! I haven't used my old Singer for 14 years since my Rottweiler had a fight with it and won. While searching for replacement cushions for 6 patio chairs and seeing how expensive they were I decided to get back to the "machine". I searched for what I felt would suit my needs the best and settled on the Singer Heavy Duty 4423.... great choice, it's a workhorse!!! I have since made 10 cushions both seat and back for less than half the cost of the stores!!!! And to boot I can thread the needle in 15 seconds with the built in threader!!!!
Easy to set up anywhere with simple instructions. My Mother and Grandmother always sewed with Singer machines.

not only does it birds nest under the bobbin and the thread breaks. The time it takes me to sew a straight line is ridiculous(because of all the problems I was told to pull thread tight when threading and to floss on step 5. I could sew faster by hand . Lets talk about all the needles that break maybe I better not this is long enough

This machine is my first Singer purchase and I found it was a good value and easy to use. I recommend it for beginning/intermediate sewers. I've used this machine continually, short of it's 2-year purchase, making a number of wheelchair bags, lap quilts and miscellaneous craft items. Cons: Durability: I bent the whole sewing machine shaft when sewing a well padded Quilt and using the Even/Walking Foot for the first time. I'm not sure what happened except I heard an awful sound. The zig-zag operation works but due to the bent shaft the needle hits the pressure foot as well as other feet do not even attach now. I was so bummed out. As my charity work continues I needed an immediate replacement machine and have purchased the 7470 Confidence hoping for better results.

They shouldn't describe this machine as "heavy duty," because it gave me the impression that the entire thing was metal. I wanted something a little more sustainable because plastic always cracks or eventually breaks. The machine itself stitches very well so far, however don't waste your money. My cheaper, older machine was just as good.

picky bobbin threading

I got this machine 5 months ago. It worked very well with different thickness fabric and the speed is very good. I noticed the bobbin threading problem at first try and it broke in 5 months of use. The upper thread won't pick up bobbin thread anymore and it won't loop and sew anymore. If the bobbin threading issue can be improved, this can be a great machine.

I have not been able to get this machine to sew properly since the day I purchased it. It skips stitches, birdnests, and the tension is terrible. I bought this from the Joanns that I work at and I have seen 3 of these machines returned because they were faulty. I do not reccommend this machine at all.
