We ordered this machine for my daughter as a gift on her 11th birthday. It was our first choice, and arrived mid-April, right on time without the delay and confusion that we were prepared for mid-pandemic. She has wanted a sewing machine for years, and the fact that we were able to get this exact model to her in time for her birthday was huge. She is a novice seamstress, but has improved easily on this well built, user friendly machine. Because it is so well made, she will be using it for years to come. I picked it out partly because it resembles the Singer my mom has sewed on since the 1960s. Many thanks Singer--you are a wonderful company!

I bought this machine so I'd have one to take with me to classes or friends' houses without having to haul my older machine around. I also wanted a "heavy" machine with solid parts. I've used this guy to make quilts, bags, dog collars and jackets, and clothing for myself and I'm consistently happy with it. It's very straightforward and easy to figure out if you want to skip reading the manual, but that also makes it easy to watch YouTube tutorials and apply it to the machine. Being a Singer it's also easy to find additional feet or bobbins at pretty much any fabric store. I would happily buy it again and have recommended it to friends as their first machine.
I've been sewing for 40 years, had a great sewing machine but lost it in a house fire. So I bought this one, since I need a heavy duty machine. It works great on thicker fabric, runs smooth. The problem is the top thread is constantly coming unthreaded! I have to keep retreading the needle, very frustrating. You must make sure there is a good length of thread beyond the needle after you remove your project from the presser foot. Otherwise, it unthreads. There is no needle down control, you must use the hand wheel. I'm used to the needle down control, so this will take time getting used to.

Change the screwdriver!

After using a basic sewing machine for 35 years, I thought a basic heavy duty machine would fit my needs. I have used this for a week and am somewhat satisfied with it. I was not used to a drop-in bobbin, so have been very careful threading both top and bottom. I have found that I can be nicely stitching along and suddenly the bobbin area will jam up with thread. The problem is that occasionally I've had to take off the throat plate, which normally wouldn't be a problem with 2 small screws. But the area between the throat plate and the machine head is so small, that a small screwdriver is required, which comes to my 2nd point. Your screwdriver is this little wedge thing, that is almost impossible to use. Change that and I will give this a higher rating. A very short normal screwdriver is all that is needed. I love the needle-threader, the auto-buttonhole feature, the ability to sew quickly and easily through thick fabrics like denim and leather and heavy canvas. The pros outweigh the cons.

Purchased this sewing machine as a gift for my daughter who is learning to sew. I purchased this machine on December 6, 2012 and on January 11, 2013 the machine will not sew. Before we could finish her first project the thread under the fabric began bunching. I performed all the checks and balances recommended in the user's guide (i.e., re-threaded the machine, checked the bobbin case, ran another bobbin, checked all of the upper tensions, stitch width and length, ensured that the button hold lever was in the up position, etc.) The machine will sew about 2-4 stitches and will then just grind and will not stitch another stitch. This is so discouraging. At this point, I am kicking myself, because I knew I should have purchased another brand of sewing machine.

If you think this machine will sew heavy fabrics for more than the occasional hemming of jeans you are wrong. Very, very disappointed!! I bought this machine in November 2013 and have had to send it twice for warranty work. I thought I would be able to use this for making purses out of heavier fabric. After the second repair I received a call from the service person who told me the heavy duty meant faster sewing and it does sew faster. That is why I gave it one star. So if you are looking for a machine to sew heavy fabrics, don't buy this one!
I'm new to sewing, and this machine was consistently recommended to me as beginner friendly model. I've used the machine for about a month now and I agree this is great a machine for beginner's. Everything is laid out in a way that’s easy to understand. I've been able to figure out how to sew multiple projects and fabrics.
I really love this machine, bought it about a month ago and have replaced my very expensive light weight Brother machine with it. Stiches are beautiful, very easy to use. It is everything I need in a machine!
