This was a gift for my niece so she would have the same machine as I do. This way I could help her as she starts her journey. I am very happy with my machine and hope she will be too. The only complaint is the buttonhole process which seems to be very complicated
Despite changing every setting, rethreading, and changing the needle as well as the type of thread and bobbin this machine would not sew a straight line. It also went "rat nesty" with no visible cause and continued after rethreading. I've never had this issue with a new machine. Returned and bought a Magnolia Janome, much more expensive, and it's perfect.
Besides the bulb blew the very first day, I love the machine

When I called Singer to tell them that the bulb blew on the very first day...All I heard was a recording AND, NO ONE at Singer called me.... The machine feed bulb area is still dark...AND, Singer is doing NOTHING to help me replace it....
My old machine stopped working so was looking for a new one with a few features to do small projects. This machine was a great fit for my needs. The drop in bobbin is new to me, but it works great. I would recommend this machine to new sewers as well as those with some experience.
I really like the machine it is nice and quiet and works fast. But I am not a fan of the auto treader it is harder to see that then it is to just tread the needle myself.
Best value for the buck!!!! I haven't used my old Singer for 14 years since my Rottweiler had a fight with it and won. While searching for replacement cushions for 6 patio chairs and seeing how expensive they were I decided to get back to the "machine". I searched for what I felt would suit my needs the best and settled on the Singer Heavy Duty 4423.... great choice, it's a workhorse!!! I have since made 10 cushions both seat and back for less than half the cost of the stores!!!! And to boot I can thread the needle in 15 seconds with the built in threader!!!!
